Yay! The first discussion for this To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before readalong is finally here! I’ve been really enjoying the book so far, and have been so so excited to talk about it with all of you! P.s. whether you are a participant or not, you are welcome to contribute to the discussion. Just keep in mind that you avoid spoilers if you’ve already fully read the book, or have read ahead. Alright! Now, let’s get to it!

Those of you who have not yet read To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny HAn and still intend to read it, don’t read beyond this point (including the comments), because there will be spoilers! You have been warned. But, if you like spoilers…be my guest!

It’s not mandatory that you answer these questions! This is not school, haha. The questions are mainly meant to generate conversations in case some of our readalongers are having a hard time picking something to talk about. Also, feel free to mention and discuss anything which I may not have thought of in the questions below! Please be sure to avoid posting spoilers about P.S. I Still Love You, the next book in this series.

  1. Do you think that Margot and Josh will get back together?
  2. Who do you think sent out Lara Jean’s love letters?
  3. Do you think that Kitty may have sent out Lara Jean’s letters as revenge? Or do you think she’s innocent?
  4. Do you think that Josh still likes Lara Jean and will try to go for her?
  5. Do you think that Peter secretly likes Lara Jean and that he’s using their fake relationship to try and get her to fall for him?
  6. Or do you think that Peter doesn’t like Lara Jean right now, but that he will end up liking her by the end of the book?

– My Answers –

  1. I honestly don’t know! I don’t know if this book’s time frame will take us all the way to Christmas time or not, so I don’t know if Margot will even come back (except for through phone convos) in this book. Plus I’m confused about Josh’s feelings for Lara Jean and vice versa as well!
  2. At first I thought that it might have been Kitty, because she was mad at Lara Jean, but unless she’s a very good actress, she kind of seems innocent to me now. But…who else would have had access to the letters? Maybe Margot did it before she left in order to force Lara Jean to face her feelings or something?
  3. As I said above, I was very convinced that Kitty sent the letters out as a form of revenge. But now she might be innocent. OR she was trying to help Lara Jean get out more and/or find a boyfriend so that she won’t miss Margot so much.
  4. I do think that Josh might like Lara Jean still, and I’m very annoyed by that! Haha. I hope that he won’t try anything, because that would be a complete betrayal of Margot and the relationship they shared.
  5. I really don’t know! Maybe he does secretly like her and the fake relationship really is a ploy to get close to her and get her to like him back. Or maybe he doesn’t even like her, but can’t stand the fact that she wrote the things she wrote about him in her letter, and can’t stand having any girl dislike him?
  6. He might end up falling for her! At this point, I will be honest, I have no idea what is going to happen in this book! Like, at all! I’m in the dark, and I’m loving it because I love being kept guessing!

  1. 1. I don’t think they will, but I sure hope they do.
    2. My guess is that Margot found them when she was packing up and thought she was doing Lara Jean a favor.
    3. Kitty may be young, but she is far from innocent. She’s very sure about everything that she does, so if she did send them out then she had every intention of hurting Lara Jean.
    4. I think he does, but he won’t pursue her too hard considering his relationship with the Song family.
    5. Of course, he likes her. What other reason would he have had for wanting her to know he doesn’t have an STD (or doesn’t always eat the last slice of pizza).
    6. By the end of the book it will move beyond a new conquest into something much more real.

    I can’t wait to see if my predictions are right!

        1. I still can’t get over how quickly you replied with your answers! Hahaha. And you make some very good points about all of the characters! I might see some of them a little differently now 😉

  2. Do you think that Margot and Josh will get back together?
    This is something i’m really unsure about, especially concerning lara jean’s feelings for josh and how he knows… i would like them to because they seemed like such a great couple but also, it felt kind of final when margot left like that.
    Who do you think sent out Lara Jean’s love letters?
    i thought it was kitty too but it really could have been margot now that you mention it! oh!!! maybe she found the letters and read the josh one and she felt guilty about not being aware of her sisiter liking her boyfriend!
    Do you think that Kitty may have sent out Lara Jean’s letters as revenge? Or do you think she’s innocent?
    now that i’ve read more of the book i’m pretty convinced that kitty is innocent.

    from what i can tell, josh isn’t that kind of person. especially since margot broke up with him, now he’s just lonely and wants a friend. i don’t think he’ll try and go for lara jean.

    lol duh! it’s such a typical trope, i think he secretly likes her and he doesn’t even know it until he develops feelings for her (c’mon we all know he will haha)

    1. I’m glad that I’m not the only one who is unsure about stuff in this book! Hahaha. And it’s awesome to read some of your perspective on things as well, because I didn’t think of some of those things 🙂

  3. 1. I hate to be so negative, but I am thinking at the moment that they’re not going to. Margot seemed very set in her decision. Also, I feel like there’s something more going on with Margot – she seems a bit off, or at least like she’s holding something back!

    2. I’m with Flavia on this one. At first I thought it was Kitty. It just made sense given the fact that she was upset with Lara Jean. But, like I said for question 1, something is weird with Margot and I have some sort of feeling that maybe Margot found them accidently and decided to send them out? I guess we’ll see!!

    3. I kind of answered this above, but I honestly am not sure. I have some suspicions about Kitty and Margot. But then I also feel like those options might be a bit too obvious?

    4. I absolutely think that Josh still has some feelings for Lara Jean, whether he wants to admit it or not. I feel like he’s conflicted because of his relationship with Margot, but since he admitted his previous feelings for Lara Jean, I feel like they still might be there, bubbling under the surface.

    5. Hm, this one is tough for me. It does seem kind of weird that he so quickly went with a decision to fake a relationship with Lara Jean. Part of me feels like he has feelings for Lara Jean and thinks that this will make her fall for him. But then a part of me thinks that he just wants to make his ex-girlfriend jealous.

    6. I think there is a high possibility that Peter will start to like Lara Jean by the end. I honestly have avoided spoilers of this book series like the plague haha and I love being in the dark on this. It is certainly a common theme in a lot of contemporary novels, but part of me hopes it’s not as predictable as that. That being said, I can’t wait to continue to see what happens!

      And I’m glad that I’m not the only one who’s confused about Peter and his intentions 😛 hehe.

      I’ve been avoiding spoilers for this series like the plague too! And I’m happy that I haven’t accidentally spoiled things for myself yet, haha. I look forward to seeing what happens too 😀 and awe yay! Def looking forward to discussing the next part with everyone!

  4. Just a heads up- In the description under the heading ” Chapters 1-24 Discussion Questions, you say to please try not to post any spoilers for Crooked Kingdom, the next book in the series–the next book in the series is P.S. I Still Love You. :]

    As for the questions, I will only say that I felt like this was going to be another one of those stereotypical teen movies where two kids use each other to make other people jealous/help each other out, and end up falling for each other by accident.
    Also- even the possibility of Josh having feelings for and going after Lara Jean is infuriating. I agree that it would totally redefine his and Margot’s relationship if he pursues Lara Jean.
    Also Also- Peter = <3 <3 <3
    It might just be me, but Peter was exactly my type in high school. I have the hugest book crush on him.

    1. Ahhhh thanks for catching that! It’s totally because I copy and pasted the post that I made for the Six of Crows readalong that I hosted late last year so that I could save time on formatting hahaha. Gah I feel awful for missing that now!

      And I really hope that the movie doesn’t turn out being stereotypical! But I guess we’ll see on Aug 17th 😉

  5. I’m sorry to respond so late 🙁 I’m on vacation so I haven’t been able to sit down on my laptop and type out my answers until now haha.

    1. At first I did think they’d get back together, but as time passes I think they will less and less.

    2. Before I read this discussion, I thought Kitty sent out the love letters. I thought she did it because she was mad and didn’t realize how much of an effect it would have on Lara Jean’s life. But now I’m leaning more towards Margot sending them because she thought she was doing Lara Jean a favor. The more I’m thinking about it, maybe Margot broke up with Josh because she realized Lara Jean had feelings for him and it’s blowing my mind hahaha.

    3. At first I thought she did, but now I think she’s innocent.

    4. I think he has started to like her again since he’s seen her with someone else, but I’m very conflicted about what I want to happen. On the one hand, I know that Lara Jean wants to be with Josh and I want her to be happy. But on the other hand, Josh dating his ex-girlfriend’s sister is just so wrong and I think it would make me look at him differently.

    5. I think Peter really started dating Lara Jean to make Gen jealous, but I think he’s starting to actually like Lara Jean as time goes on. I just don’t think he realizes yet. I also think he still loves Gen so when he realizes he likes Lara Jean, he’s going to be confused about what to do.

    6. Like I said, I think Peter is gradually starting to like Lara Jean more and more and just doesn’t realize it. I think he’ll realize it by the end of the book though and if that’s true, I’m so excited to see what he does when he realizes!

    I’m really enjoying this book so far and I can’t wait to see how it ends!! 🙂

    1. No worries! Summer is a busy busy time! I sent the newsletter out 1 day late this week because yesterday was a holiday in Canada hahaha. Woops. Also, we seem to be on the same page about a lot of this discussion stuff! And haha yeah I would be like “woa” if Margot was the one who actually sent the letters out! And I’m curious to see if we find out who did in fact send them in this book, or if we have to wait until book 2 or 3! :O

  6. So fun! Recently read this one, and really enjoyed it (after YEARS of saying I wanted to read this one). Glad to have manged to accomplish this before the movie premiere!! So excited. 🙂

  8. I think Lara Jean and Josh are going to end up together. Lol. Josh seems okay with Margot leaving. I know he cried that night Lara Jean spied on them, but I don’t see them getting back together.

    I am thinking Kitty sent the letters. What I am trying to figure out is how they had addresses on them. If they had just gone to Goodwill accidentally, they would not have been sent out unless Lara Jean physically addressed them when she wrote them. I think Kitty wanted to get back at her for the crush joke.

    I do think Josh still likes Lara Jean. I think he may have subconsciously settled for Margot to begin with.

    I think Peter is trying to make Gen jealous, period. I almost wonder if feelings will develop between the two, and I wonder if maybe after he read the letter he started to think about giving her a chance, but I think his initial plan was to make Gen jealous and send her a message.

    Lol. Yes, I think he will end up liking her by the end of the book! 🙂

    The book is really cute so far! I may sit and finish it today! So excited for the movie!

I think Peter might leave the picture for a bit but then come back and realize he and Lara Jean do need to be together. And as the book went on I do think Josh settled for Margot. But, WHY would she put the addresses? LMAO!
