A runaway queen. A reluctant prince. And a quest that may destroy them both.

Eight years have passed since the Battle of the Serpent. But in the icy north, Lady Nore of the Court of Teeth has reclaimed the Ice Needle Citadel. There, she is using an ancient relic to create monsters of stick and snow who will do her bidding and exact her revenge.

Suren, child queen of the Court of Teeth, and the one person with power over her mother, fled to the human world. There, she lives feral in the woods. Lonely, and still haunted by the merciless torments she endured in the Court of Teeth, she bides her time by releasing mortals from foolish bargains. She believes herself forgotten until the storm hag, Bogdana chases her through the night streets. Suren is saved by none other than Prince Oak, heir to Elfhame, to whom she was once promised in marriage and who she has resented for years.

Now seventeen, Oak is charming, beautiful, and manipulative. He’s on a mission that will lead him into the north, and he wants Suren’s help. But if she agrees, it will mean guarding her heart against the boy she once knew and a prince she cannot trust, as well as confronting all the horrors she thought she left behind.

⤖ My Review ⬻

For those of you newer to my blog (and platform in general), I’ve been a big fan of Holly Black for many years! Starting with her Tithe books back in 2002 (long before I became a book blogger). I’ll stop there with my rambles haha but if you are interested in said rambles, you’re welcome to check out the reviews I wrote (since actually having a blog) for The Cruel Prince, The Wicked King, The Queen of Nothing, How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories, and her adult debut, Book of Night.

Now, actually moving on to her latest release, The Stolen Heir, I wanted to share that I was very excited to read about a side character I met in the previous The Folk of the Air books (I won’t name the name since this might be a spoiler in itself for any who haven’t read all of those books and still intend to).

I was also concerned, however, that I might not get to see the main characters I grew to love so much in said previous books. But I also understood it was time for another cast of characters to have their adventure, and I was just happy to return to the world of The Folk of the Air!

It took me a bit longer to get attached to the characters than the other cast, but once I got attached, let me tell you…I was 100% invested in their success and wellbeing! I definitely enjoyed The Stolen Heir and just wish I had the next book, The Prisoner’s Throne, in my hands yesterday!
