Yay for another Down the TBR Hole post! I’ve been keeping up with these quite well because they’re fun to make, and I’m also cleaning up my TBR list at the same time! Hurray for being productive. Keep reading to see which books will be staying, and which will be going this week!
For those of you hearing about this meme for the first time, here’s some more info from the blog of the creator, Lia @ Lost in a Story:
Down The TBR Hole is a meme that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when you’re scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well that’s going to change!
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
Rainbow Rowell’s Carry On
As I mentioned in last week’s Down the TBR Hole post, I definitely plan on reading this book, as well as Fangirl by the same author! I just don’t know in which order I’ll get to them. I don’t own Carry On yet though, so it’s likely that I’ll be reading Fangirl first. I really want to buy the paperback version (because of the cover!) and will read it then, so it’s:
Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff’s Illuminae
I bought this book soon after it came out, in a splurge buy (before I even knew about Book Outlet) in which I bought Wink Poppy Midnight and A Darker Shade of Magic as well. I cannot believe that I paid more for 3 books than I did for the 10 books that I bought during Boxing Week, hahaha. I might cry. But anyway, I’m happy that I got this book because I read the first chapter and loved it. It’s:
Mindy McGinnis’s Not a Drop to Drink
I’ve finally read my first Mindy McGinnis book (This Darkness Mine), and devoured it in one sitting. It was messed up, and I was kind of caught between being disturbed and very very entertained. Haha. I kind of like this mix (most of the time), so I think that I’ll still give this series a try someday, so it will be:
Mindy McGinnis’s A Madness so Discreet
Again, I like McGinnis’ style, and I hope that A Madness So Discreet will be as messed up and entertaining as This Darkness Mine! It’s described as a “beautifully twisted historical thriller,” and as “twisted,” and that definitely sounds like something right up my alley. I’m also curious about which time period this is set in, because I can’t quite tell from the cover… But in either case, it’s:
Holly Black’s White Cat
This was a tough one! I read the first chapter of this book either right when it came out, or read a sneak peek beforehand. I had just finished Holly Black’s Modern Fairytales series, and really needed more of her writing in my life. But for some reason, I never actually sat down with this book and read it cover to cover. Since then, I’ve heard some mixed things … but my final verdict is that it’ll be:
A Madness So Discreet sounds intriguing! And that’s just what I need, to grow my TBR by reading Down the TBR Hole posts hahaha
Right?! And hahahaa I’m sorry!
I think White Cat is on my TBR. If not, it will be.
Ooooo yay! Maybe we’ll end up reading it around the same time 🙂
I definitely agree that you should keep Carry On, it was great! And Illuminae has been on my TBR forever, but it intimidates me so much because of its length! I’m crossing my fingers that I will get to it this year, though.
Yay that’s good to hear! I need to read it ASAP. I tried the audiobook, but am not sure how I feel about the narrator. Might try again this year. And haha I thought I was the only one who hadn’t read Illuminae yet 😛
Oooh this sounds like fun and a great way to clear out my TBR! There have been tons of books I’ve added on the cover alone :S
It is! It’s really helping with my TBR guilt, because I now know that I’ll be cleaning out the books that aren’t really for me anymore, or that I just added to the list on a whim.
LOL. Not much cleating out today. But some great books to keep.
Yeahhhh “Fail” should be my middle name hahaha. But you’re right 🙂 I’m glad I’m keeping them.
Uh-oh! 5 out of 5 staying? Lol. I can relate. It’s so hard to quiet that voice that screams, “I MIGHT STILL READ THIS!!” I’m especially glad to see you kept Illuminae. That’s a book everyone should experience!
Yeeees I fail! Hahaha. But like I keep saying, at least I remember why I wanted to read the books that I’m keeping on the list in the first place!
That’s true! Deleting for the sake of deleting doesn’t help anyone.
Very true 🙂
This is a cool prompt! But I’m crazy with my goodreads shelf and keep it organized to the point where the books on the TBR are books that I want to buy but don’t own hahaha and I check it constantly.
Ahhhh then this meme wouldn’t be too helpful for you hahaha.
Oh I am glad to hear you are keeping Illuminae, I really loved this book (and I am not a fan of sci-fi, usually, well I don’t really read a lot of books like that, so that says A LOT) 🙂
Yeeees it’s sitting on my shelf…not getting any love. Sigh. It’s my goal to read the whole series this year if I can!
I hope you will, I would LOVE to know what you think of it 😀
Aweeeee thank you! 🙂
