Book Outlet Boxing Week 2017 Book Haul

I haven’t made one of these haul posts in quite some time. But I promised, and a number of you asked for a post like this, so here it is! Ta daaa! (P.S. What do you guys think of the banner?!) Yes, I bought 10 books in one go, and while to some that might seem like a very small number (especially when I tell you that these are the only books that I bought in all of 2017!) but for me, probably because of my book buying ban throughout part of 2016, and most of 2017 (until the end, obviously) this was a lot. But honestly, I’d gotten paid after working very hard, and Book Outlet had a sale one that I could. not. resist. I mean, the prices were incredible! So, without further ado, here is what I bought:

And here it is, in all it’s glory! I rotated a lot of different books through my shopping cart throughout Boxing Week, but eventually settled on these 10 beauties! There was one other book that I really wanted, but I forget which one it was, because it disappeared due becoming sold out. Sigh. But that’s life! So, here we go, from top to bottom:

Tithe by Holly Black
Lock & Mori by Heather W. Petty

The first one one I read many years ago, but my copy went missing. So, I bought it to complete my collection. I’m not sure if the fact that I’ve already read it makes me feel less shame though, because I am very much out of shelf space, so I shouldn’t be buying books! As for Lock & Mori, I’ve seen around for a while now, and recognized the name, so I added it to my cart in order to save more money (that’s right, the sale was set up so that you save more the more you spend! Ah!) Plus it was between $1 and $2 Canadian, so, no guilt there.

Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire
A Madness So Discreet by Mindy McGinnis

I am now in love with Seanan McGuire’s writing because the lovely Milana from A Couple Reads got me hooked on her October Daye series! I had the Wayward Children series by McGuire on my TBR long before I even heard of October Day, but now it just means that I’ll have to get to Wayward Children a lot sooner! A Madness So Discreet has been on my TBR since Owlcrate featured it as their October/Halloween book back in 2016 (I think). It just really intrigued me, and still does, especially now that I’ve read This Darkness Mine by McGinnis, and inhaled it.

The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khourey
The Smell of Other People’s Houses by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcook

The Forbidden Wish had been on my TBR since 2016 as well. I saw it on Bookstagram a lot (which should come as no surprise, because I mean … look at that cover!) But the synopsis really intrigued me too, and it has a high Goodreads rating. The Smell of Other People’s Houses is not the kind of book that I normally go for, but I’ve been trying to branch out, and I heard many good things about this book as well. Plus, it’s very photogenic!

Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi
Want by Cindy Pon

As some of you may know, I read and reviewed Whichwood by Tahereh Mafi earlier this month. When I requested it, I didn’t know that it was a companion novel to Futhermore, sigh, and I did spoil some things for myself. But, the good news is that this did not deter me from wanting to read Furthermore. I read a sneak peek from it back before it was released, and loved every word. Hoping to pick it up sometime this year. Want is also a book that I’ve had my eye on since it was released. I had the opportunity to pick it as my prize for a giveaway that I won, but decided on another book in stead. I love the book that I chose, but I always kind of regretted not getting my hands on Want, so when I saw that it was on sale on Book Outlet, it was an insta-buy.

The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye
The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi

I’ve been eyeing The Crown’s Game for quite some time. Or rather, I’d seen the cover around sine before it came out, but for some reason, the cover itself did not inspire me enough to even bother reading the synopsis. I know. Silly me. But when I heard that this takes place in Russia, or is Imperial Russia inspired, I made grabby hands. How did I not notice that the palace on the cover looks like a Russian palace?! I’m so silly, but yeah, I hope to read this one, and its sequel soon. Aaaaand finally, the 10th and last book in this haul is The Star-Touched Queen. I read this book and it’s companion A Crown of Wishes early last year, and I am so happy that I did. Chokshi’s writing is incredibly beautiful, and the stories … I don’t even know what to say. I didn’t own a copy of this book yet, so again, another insta-buy.

    1. Yeahhh Tithe wasn’t amazing, but I really liked it at the time! I binged the other 2 books right after haha. And yay, that’s great to hear about Furthermore 🙂

Thank you and thanks for reading!

  1. I’m LIVING for this haul! You have a few in here that I regret not getting during the Black Friday sale, specifically Tithe, Forbidden Wish, and The Smell of Other People’s Houses. I’ve heard such great things about all three books and well you know, after The Cruel Prince I need more of the Fae Queen’s writing lol. Great haul Flavia, I hope you enjoy all of your new reads <3! 🙂

    1. Awe yaaay! And I’m sorry that I’m making you regret not getting those during the sale! I don’t think that The Modern Fairytales series comes close to comparing to The Cruel Prince, but they’re good enough to tide you over until the Cruel Prince sequel maybe 😉

      And thank youu! 😀

  2. The Smell of Other People’s House is on my Kindle for a long time and I need to read it! Happy Friday Flavia <3

  3. I’ve been wanting to read Furthermore for a while now. Did you know that you can make a wishlist on your Book Outlet account and it will save the books even if they go out of stock? The other thing I do is search for books by title because sometimes even if they run out of the main ones, they might have scratch n dent ones or one in a different format.

  4. This is such a good haul, I really want to read the crown’s game so I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts when you get round to reading it 🙂

    1. Thank you! And yay I’m glad I’m not the only one who hasn’t read some of these yet 😛

And I changed it a few days after Christmas 😀 Thank you so much! <3
