As you may have noticed, I am using my Halloween-themed Top Ten Tuesday thingy…because I refuse to acknowledge that Halloween is over!!!! And now, to more important matters…this week’s prompt:

Jay Kristoff’s Nevernight

I hope you guys aren’t sick of me raving about this book yet! Because I’m nowhere close to stopping! This was one of my favourite 2016 reads, and one of my top 5 fantasy books of all time! (For a more detailed rambled about how awesome this book is, please read my full review here, haha). But the short version is that this book contains an amazing amount of history and detail, multi-dimensional characters, interesting interactions, plot twists, and much more! If you love fantasy, but haven’t read this yet, go do it now! My book club would definitely be reading this.

S.J. Kincaid’s The Diabolic

This is the book which I finished most recently, but I know that it will be a favourite for me even once that “afterglow” wears off (*laughs at self and shakes head*). An immense amount of work was put into the detailing of this world, and I never knew what to expect when turning the page. I gobbled this book up in a few days, and even on the plane back home when I was so tired that my eyes kept watering, I forced them to stay open, just so I could read this book to the very end, right then and there. The lack of sleep was so worth it! My book club would not miss this one. (You can read my review for The Diabolic here).

Sarah J. Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses
+ A Court of Mist and Fury

I don’t know whether to even explain myself with these ones, because most of you already understand, haha. These books hold a special place in my heart, for a number of reasons. The romance (oh my gosh the romance), the plot (I was on the edge of my seat most of the time), the characters, the character development, the world, etc. etc. etc. I would ditch my book club if they did not read these! Erin Bow’s The Scorpion Rules + The Swan Riders

I read these two books this year. I think it’s a duology. I’m not sure whether most of my book club would appreciate these books though. I think they’re a bit of an acquired taste, but I haven’t yet discussed them with anyone else who’s actually read them, so I can’t know for sure. Maybe I am thinking this because they did not feel entirely YA to me? Or perhaps because the reading became very “sciency” at times, which I personally enjoyed, but others might not. These books are definitely not fluffy, but they do address a number of relevant, and current world issues. (Read more about these books in my reviews: The Scorpion Rules & The Swan Riders)

Kiersten White’s And I Darken + Now I Rise

Although containing no magic, this book is still listed under Fantasy. This, I suppose, is due to the fact that this is a re-telling of Vlad the Impaler’s life…if he were female … and … likely with quite a few changes to how it actually went down. In either case, it’s fantasy, and I think that my book club would read it because it’s fantasy, it’s YA, there is romance, sexual tension, and a badass female for a main character! There is also no way that my book club would miss the sequel, coming out June 2017! (Read my review for And I Darken here).

Marissa Meyer’s Cinder + Scarlet

Most of you will know, and have read, these already. Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles are a series of books which are re-tellings of classic fairytales … in a futuristic, Sci-Fi setting. I was really impressed with Meyer’s adaptation of Cinder and Scarlet (and I’ll likely be impressed with the other books in the series once I read them). There were a number of times when I just wanted to clap at how Meyer made elements from the original stories work in a Sci-Fi setting! And the way she did it, also made these adaptations not corny in the least! This is a “can’t miss” for my book club. (Read more of my thoughts on these books here: Cinder & Scarlet)

Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games + Catching Fire + Mockingjay

Another series which I don’t even know if I should take the time to explain, haha. But I will, just for your guys! Considering that there are some readers who did not enjoy this series, there is a chance that my book club would not vote unanimously for this series. But I do think that due to the majority of readers having liked, if not loved, this series, that my book club would select, and read these three books.

Victoria Schwab’s This Savage Song + Our Dark Duet

Those of you who have read my review for This Savage Song will know that although I gave it 4 stars, I was somewhat disappointed with the book overall. This is in no way the fault of the author, but rather my own. I had been so excited to read a Schwab book, that I think my expectations were higher than they should have been, which then left room for disappointment. That being said, I think that my book club and I would have picked this book and read it, discussed it, and then decided to read the sequel (Our Dark Duet, June 2017) in order to see what happens, as well as give the series a second chance, for those of us who were left wanting a bit… more.

Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone + Siege and Storm
+ Ruin and Rising

Although I am currently reading the first book in this series right now (and therefore not finished), I really really love it so far and will definitely be reading the other 2 books as well! The world is just… *gush* and I love that it’s based on the Tsar system, and time period of Russia … except with magic. The architecture and the clothing, as well as the detailed magic system. Not to mention the plot! Okay, I’m done. But seriously, it is very good, and I do not think that my book club would pass this up.

Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass

This book I have sitting on my shelf, and while I haven’t yet read it, I did read one or two chapters when I first bought it. I will be reading it for sure soon, but I want to make sure my schedule is clear, because I’ll likely want to read the whole series without breaks! I enjoyed the writing, as well as the world-building in the first few pages. And if the fanbase is any indicator, this book and those which follow it will become some of my favourites.
