I’ve decided to join my first readathon! Many fellow bookworms (including the creator of this readathon, Aentee from Read at Midnight), have said that readathons have been a great way for them to tackle their TBR piles! So, I decided to give it a try because my TBR pile is getting out of control (it’s not a pile anymore, but 3 shelves), and because I love anything and everything Pokémon-related! This is just an awesome readathon idea.
Disclaimer: Pokémon does not belong to me, but to Nintendo!
Okay so, to quote Aentee directly, for those who may also like to join, or just simply want to know that the heck it is that I’m talking about, hahaha:
What Is It?
The Pokémon Indigo League #ReadThemAllThon is a 3 weeks long reading challenge based on the Kanto’s Indigo League. Long-time fans of the series would recognise this as the first set of gyms Ash Ketchum had to conquer in his quest to become the Pokémon Master. Now you, my friends, will also embark on a journey to become the very best. Instead of fighting gym battles, you’ll be reading books instead!
When Is It?
The read-a-thon will run for 3 weeks between Sunday 14th August to Sunday 4th September.
You can sign up anytime between now and the end of the read-a-thon.
How Do I Join?
Create a sign-up post on your own blog/booktube/booklr/etc with the books you will read for the challenge below and title it #ReadThemAllThon TBR or something similar. Then add your link to the link widget below. Please add a link back to this post!
The Challenge/Gyms
There are 8 reading challenges within this read-a-thon, based on the 8 gyms that are in the Indigo League. Earn a badge every time you complete a book!
Pewter Gym: The First Book In A Series
This Rock-type gym is the first gym Ash and the Pokémon player ever encounters. Finish this challenge to win a Boulder Badge.
The book I’ll be choosing for this badge will be…
Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Córdova
339 pages – potential +33CP
Cerulean Gym: A Book That Might Make You Cry
This Water-type gym has a badge that looks like a droplet of your tear, so read a book that will rip your heart out. Finish this challenge to win a Cascade Badge.
The book I’ll be choosing for this badge will be…
Ghostly Echoes by William Ritter
348 pages – potential +34CP
Vermillion Gym: A Book With Thunderous Hype
Vermillion City is the home to Lt. Surge and his many Electric-type Pokémon. For this challenge, read a book that’s been hyped all over bestseller’s list and the internet. Finish this challenge to win a Thunder Badge.
A Darker Shade if Magic by V. E. Schwab
400 pages – potential +40CP
Note: This was originally going to be The Wrath and the Dawn, but I moved it down to Cinnabar.
Celadon Gym: A Book That Focuses on Diversity
Celadon Gym is one of my favourites, because of it’s colourful Grass-type aesthetics. Read a diverse book and you will earn yourself a Rainbow Badge.
The book I’ll choose for this badge is…
394 pages – potential +39CP
Fuschia Gym: A Book With A Great Romance
I’ve always been confused by the fact that a Poison-type gym has a heart-shaped badge. Can someone explain please. Read a book that features romance prominently and earn a Soul Badge.
The book I’ll choose for this badge is…
387 pages – potential +38CP
Saffron Gym: A Book With Fantasy/Supenatural Elements
Saffron City is where all the Psychic-types hang out, so for this challenge, read a bool with fantasy, magical realism, or paranormal elements. Finish this challenge to win a Marsh Badge.
This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab
427 pages (+23 pg prologue) = 450 – potential +45CP
Note: Switched out Iron Cast because it doesn’t come out until Oct. and I shouldn’t review it yet…
Cinnabar Gym: A Book With A Red Cover
Cinnabar Island is famous for red earth and Fire-type Pokémon. For this challenge, read a book with a red cover. Complete this challenge to win a Volcano Badge.
The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh
404 pages – potential +40CP
Note: I switched out Rooms by Lauren Oliver because I’m not ready for it yet. Moved this book down from Vermillion.
Viridian Gym: A Book With Post-Apocalyptic Setting
The final gym is home to a Team Rocket Leader (OK, if it’s been out 10+ years you can’t cry spoilers) and Ground-type Pokémon. For this challenge, read a book featuring a ruined, post-apocalyptic Earth. Finish this to win yourself an Earth Badge.
The book I’ll choose for this badge is…
454 pages – potential +45CP
Extra Points & Fun
I’ve also decided to go all out with this first readathon by also join in the extra fun! (You can find the details about that in Aentee’s original post here).
And the Pokémon I will be using is Pichu! Because Pichu, Pikachu and Raichu are my favourites and because I don’t have any of them in Pokémon Go, hahaha. So, as of right now my Pichu is starting with 10CP
Good luck with your first readathon! I have yet to join one myself xD
By the way, I noticed you have a newsletter now! How cool 🙂 (unless that has always been there and I just now noticed…?)
-Jess @jbelkbooks
Thank you so much! And you should join this one! 😛 hahaha
And yeah it’s new! I didn’t think I needed one before, and I also didn’t really know how to set it up. But we’ll see how it goes! I’ll get rid of it if not enough people sign up. 🙂
Hahah, I definitely would if I wasn’t planning a hiatus soon xD
Oh wow, well I hope it’s successful 🙂
-Jess @jbelkbooks
A hiatus?! Oh no! I hope everything’s okay!
And thank you I hope so too! 🙂
Oh yeah, everything is okay, don’t worry <3
-Jess @jbelkbooks
Ahh thank goodness! Okay 🙂 ❤
Good luck with the readathon! I’m so excited about all the challenges and you’ve chosen some amazing books. The Lunar Chronicles is my favourite series of all time and Carry On was one of my favourite books of last year. Enjoy them!
Ahh that’s so good to hear! I’ve been meating to read these for so long. I figured now I’ll actually do it! 🙂
Carry On, Cinder, and Shatter Me! Could you have picked better books XD I love each and every one of these books hope you enjoy them, great TBR 😀
This readathon sounds so cool. Might have to join it. It will be my first as well!
Oh really? I would have thought that you’d participated in a lot of them! 🙂 And yes! Definitely join! 😀
Ooooo you have so many great choices! I love read-a-thons, and I can’t wait to start this one. 🙂
I really liked A Darker Shade of Magic, Carry On, Cinder, The Wrath and the Dawn, and Shatter Me, so I hope you enjoy them as well! I really want to read This Savage Song as well. It looks so good, and everyone’s loved it so far! Have you read anything else by her?
-Amy
Haha yay! 🙂 That makes me even more excited to get started! I’ve been really wanting to get to those for months now.
And no I sadly haven’t read anything by her yet. Maybe that’s why I put 2 of her books on here haha because it’s just wrong of me not to have read her 😛
Hahaha me too! I have so many books sitting in my room right now (which is pretty small to start with) because I have the pile of unread that’s been growing for about five years, and the 20 that I just bought…. Yikes. XD
ADSOM is the only one I’ve read by her, and it was INCREDIBLE, so I can’t wait to read more!
Haha I hear ya. My room is small too, and it’s mostly bookshelves, and piles of books that I can’t fit on said bookshelves anymore.
And which one is ADSOM?
Hahaha I get that! ADSOM stands for A Darker Shade of Magic.
Ohhhh! I was thinking of another conversation I’m having about Sarah J. Maas books bahaha! So I was confused. Sorry!
And yes, I’ve heard nothing but good things about ADSOM 😀
Hahaha no biggie!
The first half of the book is mostly building the world, but it does get more into the pot later on!
I love world building though @_@ hahaha
Hahaha I get that!
I think I will do this next month 🙂
Awee there’s a set time for it though, where all of us participating are doing it together. Aug 14 – Sept 4 🙁
Ah then it’s a fun thing for me next month. Will just do it, for the fun of it.
Aweee okay! Let me know when you start and I can cheer you on! 😀
Good Luck on your first Read-A-Thon! Also love your choices but I need to warn you, some people found the first 100pages of Carry On slow, so work that in the best way you can for yourself. I personally loved every page of that book. 🙂
Thank you so much! And aweee that’s fine. I read an excerpt some time back and I found that I liked how Rowell was sort of easing me into her world. I don’t mind slow beginnings…and I’m encouraged by the fact that you loved it! 😀
