When her twin sister reaches social media stardom, Moon Fuentez accepts her fate as the ugly, unwanted sister hidden in the background, destined to be nothing more than her sister’s camerawoman. But this summer, Moon also takes a job as the “merch girl” on a tour bus full of beautiful influencers and her fate begins to shift in the best way possible.

Most notable is her bunkmate and new nemesis, Santiago Phillips, who is grumpy, combative, and also the hottest guy Moon has ever seen.

Moon is certain she hates Santiago and that he hates her back. But as chance and destiny (and maybe, probably, close proximity) bring the two of them in each other’s perpetual paths, Moon starts to wonder if that’s really true. She even starts to question her destiny as the unnoticed, unloved wallflower she always thought she was.

Could this summer change Moon’s life as she knows it?

⤖ My Review ⬻

If I had to choose a favourite YA contemporary read from 2021, it would be How Moon Fuentez Fell in Love with the Universe. It was beautifully written with an interesting plot line and great character development. Did I mention it was beautifully written?

The manner in which Raquel Vasquez Gilliland wove words and sentences together was lyrical and awe inspiring. I can’t get over the incredible imagery I was able to imagine while reading How Moon Fuentez Fell in Love with the Universe. As if that isn’t enough, a great part of the story in this book is also a love story!

If you’ve been following my blog for even just a short while, you’ll likely have noticed that I’m a hopeless romantic. I really thrive on well-written romance and this aspect of the story in How Moon Fuentez Fell in Love with the Universe was so so good.

I also really enjoyed reading about the characters…and I mean all the characters–including the ones we were perhaps supposed to dislike. While I definitely rooted for only a few of the characters, the others were an integral part of the story. How Moon Fuentez Fell in Love with the Universe was incredible!
