As you can probably tell from the title of this post, I have decided to join another readathon! I am not the fastest reader in the 7 kingdoms, but because this readathon is more of a group effort, I think it’ll be okay. What do I mean by it being a group effort? Well, let me tell you. This readathon has been created by the amazing Aentee from Read at Midnight, will be taking place from January 1-15 2017, and it is Harry Potter themed! That’s right, this is not a drill! And the group portion of it is simply that you join a Hogwarts House, and that the points you earn by reading are all compiled and make up each House’s house points. And as if that’s not amazing enough, the book we will be reading are all diverse books! You can read more about it here, in Aentee’s event post. This book is about a girl who is agoraphobic (a condition which makes it impossible for the sufferer to leave their house without experiencing immense distress), and while I do not suffer from agoraphobia (not by a long shot), I have had to deal with anxiety over leaving my home, especially if it was to attend social events. (Please let me know if this doesn’t count!)

I have never read a book with a trans character before, don’t ask me how, and this book has been catching my eye online as well as in like every bookstore I’ve been in over the last few months. It caught my eye again while I was trying to come up with the TBR for this readathon, scrolling through my Goodreads “to read” list, so I had to choose it!

I have been meaning to read this book since earlier this year (2016), and for some reason kept pushing it back. I tend to pick books depending on the types of plot or genres I’m in the mood in though, so I must not have been in the mood for this. However, I am now! Every time I read the summary I feel more and more excited about reading it!

I decided to change this book from  Fire by Night to Truthwitch because I will be part of the blog tour for Fire by Night, and I don’t want to confuse myself too much. I also recently received a physical ARC for Windwitch and will therefore be reading both books during the designated readathon period. While I have not yet read Truthwitch or Windwitch, I will be reading both in January, and I have heard that the series featured some empowered women! I guess I’ll see for myself when the time comes.

Binti has been patiently waiting in my TBR pile for some time! But as is the case with many many books in my TBR pile, I get caught up in other and newer books. I forget how it is that I found out about this book, but it may have been that the cover caught my eye. Isn’t it just…ugh! I can’t stop looking at it! But anyway, no more excuses! I will finally be reading this book, and no one can stop me!

I think this book has “stunned the internet” judging from how  often I’ve seen it in Instagram photos, mentioned on Twitter, reviewed and loved on blogs and Goodreads. It does sound very very good, and the story just feels fresh to me! I don’t usually read contemporary, but I really hope that I’ll be able to read fast enough to get to this book during this readathon! I need to read it before the movie comes out, that’s for sure.

This book was recommended to me by my blogger friend Nazahet from Read Diverse Books! He kindly listed  few suggestions, and they all sounded so good that I had a very hard time choosing. But, in the end (as you can see) I selected The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill because 1) it’s diverse, and I’ve been meaning to read more diverse literature (if you couldn’t tell from my joining this readathon, haha), 2) it’s Canadian Litarature and I’ve been trying to read more of that too, and 3) I really should have read it by now anyway! Shame on me. Greatly looking forward to reading this! Thank you Nazahet!!!
