As you can probably tell from the title of this post, I have decided to join another readathon! I am not the fastest reader in the 7 kingdoms, but because this readathon is more of a group effort, I think it’ll be okay. What do I mean by it being a group effort? Well, let me tell you. This readathon has been created by the amazing Aentee from Read at Midnight, will be taking place from January 1-15 2017, and it is Harry Potter themed! That’s right, this is not a drill! And the group portion of it is simply that you join a Hogwarts House, and that the points you earn by reading are all compiled and make up each House’s house points. And as if that’s not amazing enough, the book we will be reading are all diverse books! You can read more about it here, in Aentee’s event post. You should all join (come join Slytherin House! #SlytherinPride! Haha)
And now, without further ado, here is my sign-up post / readathon TBR!
Quoted from Aentee: The prompts of #DAReadAThon are inspired by the spells Harry and co. practised and used during their meetings in the Room of Requirements. We’ll be doing magic of our own by reading and promoting diverse titles using the incantations below. There are seven prompts, since we all know that’s the magic number.
This book is about a girl who is agoraphobic (a condition which makes it impossible for the sufferer to leave their house without experiencing immense distress), and while I do not suffer from agoraphobia (not by a long shot), I have had to deal with anxiety over leaving my home, especially if it was to attend social events. (Please let me know if this doesn’t count!)
I have never read a book with a trans character before, don’t ask me how, and this book has been catching my eye online as well as in like every bookstore I’ve been in over the last few months. It caught my eye again while I was trying to come up with the TBR for this readathon, scrolling through my Goodreads “to read” list, so I had to choose it!
I have been meaning to read this book since earlier this year (2016), and for some reason kept pushing it back. I tend to pick books depending on the types of plot or genres I’m in the mood in though, so I must not have been in the mood for this. However, I am now! Every time I read the summary I feel more and more excited about reading it!
I decided to change this book from Fire by Night to Truthwitch because I will be part of the blog tour for Fire by Night, and I don’t want to confuse myself too much. I also recently received a physical ARC for Windwitch and will therefore be reading both books during the designated readathon period. While I have not yet read Truthwitch or Windwitch, I will be reading both in January, and I have heard that the series featured some empowered women! I guess I’ll see for myself when the time comes.
Binti has been patiently waiting in my TBR pile for some time! But as is the case with many many books in my TBR pile, I get caught up in other and newer books. I forget how it is that I found out about this book, but it may have been that the cover caught my eye. Isn’t it just…ugh! I can’t stop looking at it! But anyway, no more excuses! I will finally be reading this book, and no one can stop me!
I think this book has “stunned the internet” judging from how often I’ve seen it in Instagram photos, mentioned on Twitter, reviewed and loved on blogs and Goodreads. It does sound very very good, and the story just feels fresh to me! I don’t usually read contemporary, but I really hope that I’ll be able to read fast enough to get to this book during this readathon! I need to read it before the movie comes out, that’s for sure.
This book was recommended to me by my blogger friend Nazahet from Read Diverse Books! He kindly listed few suggestions, and they all sounded so good that I had a very hard time choosing. But, in the end (as you can see) I selected The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill because 1) it’s diverse, and I’ve been meaning to read more diverse literature (if you couldn’t tell from my joining this readathon, haha), 2) it’s Canadian Litarature and I’ve been trying to read more of that too, and 3) I really should have read it by now anyway! Shame on me. Greatly looking forward to reading this! Thank you Nazahet!!!
Quoted from Aentee: Keeping scores is completely optional, but since you guys enjoyed doing it so much for my Pokemon Indigo League #ReadThemAllThon, I thought I would bring it back for this challenge. Instead of individual glory, you will be fighting together with your Hogwarts Houses!
- Each 10 pages you read will earn you 1 House Point.
- Each book you complete will earn you 5 House Points.
- Each book you review specifically for the #DAReadAThon will earn you 5 House Points.
- Crosspost your review to Amazon for 1 House Point.
- Post an image of your #DAReadAThon ID on Twitter for 1 House Point, and it allows other members of your House to find you!
- Tweeting on the #DAReadAThon hashtag (with meaningful tweets about your current reads, recommendations of #OwnVoices) will earn you 1 House Point each. You can have a maximum of 20 House Points from Social Media interactions.
- Photos of your #DAReadAThon books or TBR pile will earn you 1 House Point each. This contributes towards the maximum of 20 House Points from Social Media interactions mentioned above.
- We will catalogue the points at the end via a masterpost, and find out who the Hogwarts House Champion for Diversity is!
This looks so fun! If I was a full-fledged book blogger instead of a food-from-books blogger, I would totally take part in this! ^.^
Aweee anyone who reads can participate though 🙂 some people who don’t have blogs are participating through Twitter even. I’m so excited for it! Going to be so much fun!
I love the idea of this readathon. I would totally participate but I’m trying to keep my reading during my winter break really low-pressure and just be open to read whatever without any pressure to read certain books 😛 I may just keep the all the challenges and complete them throughout 2017, as one of my big goals for next year is to read more diversely. Anyway, enough of my rambling haha Good luck to you for the readathon!
Thanks so much for commenting! And aweee when is your winter break? Because the readathon doesn’t start until January 1st 🙂
I know what you mean by wanting to keep your reading load light, haha. I think I signed up to read and review a few too many books over the next 2 months. Halp!
My break is from December 17th to January 18th! And I have a feeling I’ll be able to get more reading done during January than December since the holidays will be over then 😛 I have a few review books to read and some library books to try to get through. That’s enough pressure for me during my break haha
Haha that would be enough pressure! Good luck with those and I hope you enjoy them! 😀
Binit was awesome, hope you enjoy it 🙂 A lot of your list I hadn’t heard of before, and many will now be on my TBR 🙂
Thanks for reading and commenting! 😀 and yes I’ve heard only good things about Binti! Also yay! That’s so awesome 😉
Love the books you picked out! I’m currently still working on mine.
Thanks so much! Also, thanks for reading and commenting!
I look forward to seeing your list! 😀
