2020 has been a year that has forced us to change we do things–even regular every day, or monthly, or yearly things. Getting together in groups has been one of those things, and while Secret Santa swaps have existed virtually pre-2020, they are one of the only ways that Secret Santas are happening this year. So, when I was appraoched about Wikibuy’s downloadable virtual book swap wishlists and the whole idea behind them, I had to share them with all of you (P.s. none of this is sponsored)!
Christmas is fast approaching, and I’ve also been chatting with fellow book bloggers and bookstagrammers about unhauling books, etc. etc. So, I found that the virtual book swap wishlists were a great idea for unhauling books and running virtual Secret Santas!
Why Not Try Hosting a Virtual Book Swap?
Cracking open a new book that you’ve waited to read for a long time is exciting. But you know what can be even more exciting? Reading a book that someone else who knows you well picked out for you.
That’s the idea behind these virtual book swap wishlists that Wikibuy created.
It’s sort of like the popular Secret Santa holiday tradition but for books. Here’s how it works: you gather a group of friends or family members and have everyone print and fill out these wishlists.
Everyone writes down the last three books that they’ve read and circles the genre of books that they’re interested in reading next. Participants can also mark down on the wishlist whether they want to read something short or on the longer side.
Then, you redistribute the wishlists randomly so that everyone in your group gets someone else’s wishlist. Each person picks out a book from their personal library that they think their wishlist recipient might like and mails them that book.
The good part is that everyone is surprised with something new to read, and everyone also declutters their bookshelf at the same time.
The Wikibuy team also created book swap wishlists for kids in which little ones can circle pictures relating to the books they want to read or even draw their own topics!
