Outsmart Your Enemies. Outrun the Galaxy.
Tina never worries about being ‘ordinary’—she doesn’t have to, since she’s known practically forever that she’s not just Tina Mains, average teenager and beloved daughter. She’s also the keeper of an interplanetary rescue beacon, and one day soon, it’s going to activate, and then her dreams of saving all the worlds and adventuring among the stars will finally be possible. Tina’s legacy, after all, is intergalactic—she is the hidden clone of a famed alien hero, left on Earth disguised as a human to give the universe another chance to defeat a terrible evil.
But when the beacon activates, it turns out that Tina’s destiny isn’t quite what she expected. Things are far more dangerous than she ever assumed. Luckily, Tina is surrounded by a crew she can trust, and her best friend Rachel, and she is still determined to save all the worlds. But first she’ll have to save herself.
Buckle up your seatbelt for this thrilling sci-fi adventure set against an intergalactic war from international bestselling author Charlie Jane Anders.
⤖ My Review ⬻
To start, I wanted to say that I had not read any of Charlie Jane Anders’ other books before picking up Victories Greater Than Death, so I went in without knowing what to expect. …and I came out, a bit Charlie Jane Anders fan! Victories Greater Than Death was such a fun read!
I will admit that when I first started reading this book, I wasn’t too sure about the narrator (the main character, Tina). But once I got into the rhythm of the writing and storytelling style, I definitely got pulled in. Victories Greater Than Death was 100% the intergalactic adventure I’d been craving (I’d been itching to read a great science fiction book for a while) and I’m now sad that I read it too quickly and it’s over.
As is the case with most books that I read these days, due to my busy work schedule and other adult responsibilities, I experienced part of Victories Greater Than Death as an audiobook. So, I thought that I would tell you a bit about my experience with the audiobook as well.
I really liked the narrator! While I wasn’t sure whether she was a good fit for how I envisioned Tina sounding like at first, once I got to know Tina a little better, I came to the conclusion that the narrator was actually perfect. They especially did an amazing job when reading out the action scenes and also when acting out the voices of other characters!
Victories Greater Than Death was great. It was fast-paced, action-packed, featured some great character development and world-building, all with a dash of romance. I definitely recommend it and am eagerly awaiting the sequel, Dreams Bigger Than Heartbreak!
