A Life No One Will Remember. A Story You Will Never Forget.
France, 1714: in a moment of desperation, a young woman makes a Faustian bargain to live forever and is cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets.
Thus begins the extraordinary life of Addie LaRue, and a dazzling adventure that will play out across centuries and continents, across history and art, as a young woman learns how far she will go to leave her mark on the world.
But everything changes when, after nearly 300 years, Addie stumbles across a young man in a hidden bookstore and he remembers her name.
⤖ My Review ⬻
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue was such a ride! I’m still trying to wrap my mind around how Schwab took us to different places in the world as well as to so many places in time 442 pages. This book could have easily reached 1000 pages, and at times I had hoped that it would. There were definitely parts of the story–particularly spots in time–where I wish that I could have spent more time, gotten more details about. But I’ll stop there and instead focus on what The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue did give us. I guess I’ll start with Addie first…
Addie. Oh I had a complicated relationship with Addie. I felt for her, I really did and I was very excited to embark on a journey through these 400+ pages with her. I found, however, that I never quite fully clicked with her. But that might not necessarily be a bad thing! It could easily have been done on purpose so that one absorbs the story in a very particular way.
I can’t say more than that without spoiling things though. But feel free to private message me on Instagram or Twitter if you’ve read The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue already, or even if you do so months or even years down the road! I’d like to know what you think. I can’t decide whether Addie was a complex character or not because I never connected with her 100% …
But in either case, the other characters I found to be complex for sure. Some more than others–but one thing I can say for sure about all of them: I would have liked to spend more time with them! So, I wish that this had been a longer book or a series, haha. That being said, there is the appeal of standalone and how the story wraps up and you don’t have to wait months or even years between books! All in all, I could probably continue talking about this book for a while, but I would be skirting spoiler territory, so I’ll stop here and end things with… I enjoyed The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and it really helped me escape from real life during a very difficult time. I’ll also be picking up more of Schwab‘s books soon!

She loves fairy tales, and folklore, and stories that make her wonder if the world is really as it seems.
Apparently everyone I know has read this book, and I really really need to get on with the program lol. This is a very good review Flavia (◕‿◕)♡
Thank you! And I hope that you get to read it soon! 😀
I’m so behind reading this one, but great review (:
I hope that you get to read it soon! And thank you! 🙂
This is on my list to read!
I hope you’ll be able to pick it up ASAP 😀
Me too! There is a very long line at my local library for it
Ahhhh! I hope that you’ll be next in line ASAP
That would be amazing! So far, I’m still at the 6 months wait
6 months?! Omg. Where do you live if you don’t mind me asking?
Haha, I know, right? It’s insane. I live in Massachusetts.
Omg 6 months is so long! I wonder if they only have the one copy?
I really need to get on the bandwagon and read this book. I do own it, but haven’t read it yet. I don’t know what I’m waiting for. I also love complex characters, and I don’t think it’s a bad thing that you didn’t fully click with Addie. You don’t always have to click with the main character, it’s what makes every reading experience unique.
You’re so right! And ohhhh the amount of books I own that I haven’t read yet…is embarrassing haha. Either way though, I hope that you get to read Addie’s story soon 🙂
I loved Addie LaRue as well. Many said that it was draggy, but I agree with you, it could have lasted 1000 pages and I would have soaked up all that extra time of journeying with her! Lovely review and blog as well!
I’m so glad that you agree! And thank you so much! 😀 <3
I think I’m in the minority here because while I mostly liked Addie LaRue, I didn’t absolutely love it. I really wish I had – I’m such a fan of Schwab (loved the Shades of Magic series and Vicious) and I know this is the book of her heart but I just wanted more from it. I don’t think it helped that I had trouble fully connecting with Addie as a character. I’m so glad that the book did work for you though and that it provided a much needed escape!
Yeahhhh I didn’t fully connect with her. I am happy that Schwab was able to write this book! I wonder what the case would have been if the book had been longer…And thanks!
