Kristen Petersen doesn’t do drama, will fight to the death for her friends, and has no room in her life for guys who just don’t get her. She’s also keeping a big secret: facing a medically necessary procedure that will make it impossible for her to have children.

Planning her best friend’s wedding is bittersweet for Kristen — especially when she meets the best man, Josh Copeland. He’s funny, sexy, never offended by her mile-wide streak of sarcasm, and always one chicken enchilada ahead of her hangry. Even her dog, Stuntman Mike, adores him. The only catch: Josh wants a big family someday. Kristen knows he’d be better off with someone else, but as their attraction grows, it’s harder and harder to keep him at arm’s length.

From reading the synopsis for The Friend Zone, I knew that this book would be different from some of the other contemporary romanced that I had read before. The female lead, Kristen, is dealing with a condition that will not allow her to have children, while the male lead, Josh, wants a really big family. I’d never come across a medical dilemma like this one in chick lit before and was happy not only because this made The Friend Zone feel different, and thereby more refreshing, but also because I would get to learn more about infertility and how it affects women since Kristen’s condition is based on the real-life experiences of someone in the author’s life as well as research.

I read this book in under 24 hours, which is something that hasn’t happened for me in a while! I just really got into the story, and loved Kristen and Josh’s chemistry together (as well as that slow burn that I’m such a sucker for)! So, I started The Friend Zone at night, just before bed, and then read from the ARC during my work breaks and listened to the audiobook version when I wasn’t on breaks, hehe. (Don’t worry, I was working on some graphics that day, so the audiobook didn’t interfere with me getting my work done!) The author did do something that makes me hesitant about picking up her next book in the series…but, I’m far too attached to the cast to pass up another book about them. I definitely recommend The Friend Zone to fans of adult contemporary romance and (if you’re anything like me) I suggest that you have a box of Kleenex handy!

  1. Great review! This book does sound interesting, though I’ve also read some not so good reviews for it. So, I guess if I did decide to read it I would probably borrow it from the library instead of just buying a copy.
