I feel such nostalgia when seeing or reading anything Toy Story, because I grew up with these movies. I was a kid when the first movie came out, and remember absolutely adoring it.

It was therefore pure, nostalgic joy for me to read the The Art of Toy Story 4 book! I’ll be looking into getting the art books for the first 3 movies as well, but I’ll let you know what I thought of this book dedicated to the 4th.

I liked how the text and visuals were laid out. They were very easy to ingest, and for the art in particular, it was easy for me to have a very close look at the detailing, as the pages in these art books are large.

The creators used the space very effectively while also keeping things aesthetically pleasing. The colours were great, and the quality of the pages was also great. (I don’t know about you, but the way the pages feel between my fingers is definitely part of the experience!)

I had such a fun time experiencing The Art of Ralph Breaks the Internet! I’ve always been interested in the process that goes on the scenes, the process of how these animated movies are put together.

In The Art of Ralph Breaks the Internet, I especially liked how the conversations between / the commentary from the film contributors were displayed: They took on the shape of Reddit threads!

Rather than reading in a paragraph about how Person 1 did the designs and Person 2 handled the animation, etc. I liked seeing the exact words from Persons 1 and 2, their own words without filling the page with too many quotes, and I think that the thread formate was perfect for this.

It’s also a nod to the internet, because I think that chats are a distinctive part of the internet, and it’s how, as a millennial pre-teen first started using the internet.
