Valentine Layton, the Duke of Malvern, has twin problems: literally.
It was always his father’s hope that Valentine would marry Miss Arabella Tarleton. But, unfortunately, too many novels at an impressionable age have caused her to grow up…romantic. So romantic that a marriage of convenience will not do and after Valentine’s proposal she flees into the night determined never to set eyes on him again.
Arabella’s twin brother, Mr. Bonaventure “Bonny” Tarleton, has also grown up…romantic. And fully expects Valentine to ride out after Arabella and prove to her that he’s not the cold-hearted cad he seems to be.
Despite copious misgivings, Valentine finds himself on a pell-mell chase to Dover with Bonny by his side. Bonny is unreasonable, overdramatic, annoying, and…beautiful? And being with him makes Valentine question everything he thought he knew. About himself. About love. Even about which Tarleton he should be pursuing.
⤖ My Review ⬻
I’d not read anything by Alexis Hall before picking up Something Fabulous, and the first thing I thought when I was a few pages in was “What the heck have I been waiting for?!” Something Fabulous was so witty and hilarious! It was also quite romantic, and as far as I know the historical aspects seemed accurate (so there’s definitely research that went into creating this story).
I seriously had a blast reading Something Fabulous! It was so much fun!! The plot kept me interested and unable to put the book down—I honestly don’t know how I did any adulting in the week I read this book. Speaking of adult…I don’t know if all Alexis Hall books are like this, having not read any others quite yet, but Something Fabulous was quite spicy.
Also, did I mention it was hilarious?! I burst out laughing so many times, I couldn’t believe it. The characters and banter were fantastic—5 stars for that alone! And I also liked but the plot almost followed a classic quest type structure but with its own twist.
There were funny moments, romantic moments, serious moments that made me cry—among other types of scenes. Something Fabulous was the romp across the English countryside I didn’t know I needed. Now excuse me while I go and try to get my hands on all of the other Alexis Hall books out in the world!
