Do not touch the sword. Do not turn the key. Do not open the gate.

In the land of the unforgiving desert, there isn’t much a girl wouldn’t do for a glass of water.

Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses, or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen’s reservoirs for as long as she can remember.

But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone.

When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently re-opens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares… but it turns out they’re real, and Saeris has landed herself in the middle of a centuries-long conflict that might just get her killed.

The first of her kind to tread the frozen mountains of Yvelia in over a thousand years, Saeris mistakenly binds herself to Kingfisher, a handsome Fae warrior, who has secrets and nefarious agendas of his own. He will use her Alchemist’s magic to protect his people, no matter what it costs him . . . or her.

Death has a name. It is Kingfisher of the Ajun Gate. His past is murky. His attitude stinks. And he’s the only way Saeris is going to make it home.

⤖ My Review ⬻

I’d like to start off by being completely honest by saying I was initially drawn to Quicksilver’s synopsis, but that something about the cover kept turning me off. I was also stressed about the sequel not coming out until this fall, since I’m not the most patient at waiting. But then person after person kept recommending this book to me, so I ended up requesting it from the publisher so I could read it and share my thoughts with you all!

My first impression was that the world of Quicksilver was unique, and that I found the female MC to be likeable. I was also quite keen to see where the plot would go right off the start. The plot moved at a fairly steady pace, and the author did a good job of keeping things interesting.

The chemistry between the main characters was also amazing! Once that started to build, there was no putting this book down for me. I also kept getting more and more intrigued by the world the author built for us—I wanted to find out more and more about its structure and history.

Some of the colloquial language used in the character dialogue pulled me out of the story here and there, but it wasn’t enough to derail me entirely. I finished Quicksilver a month ago but am still thinking about it! I’ll definitely be reading the sequel when it comes out and am curious to see what Netflix will do with the movie adaptation!
