Aaaand another Monday with a Musing Monday post successfully going up on my blog! This is amazing. (Now, we’ll see if I can keep this up once I’m employed *awkward laugh*, but until then, you can all enjoy very scheduled rambles from me!

This week I’ll be answering one of the weekly prompts, before answering the random question for this week:

I am currently reading…

Two books, and this is a little rare, but not so rare. It usually happens when I’m too excited for both books to read one first. Or, one of the books isn’t giving me something that I need as a reader, and I need the 2nd book to take care of that. OR, I’m reading the end of a series and I’m too scared to finish, haha. And of course, the latter is the case here.

I am on the third book of The Grisha Trilogy! And now that I am emotionally invested in a lot of the characters, I’m not ready to say goodbye. Plus, I’m scared that some, or all of them will get killed off in this book.

Also, while I can normally handle books with little or no romance if the plot is entertaining enough on its own, this time around, I’ve read a number of books in a row which did not give me enough romance…and Ruin and Rising would be, as the saying goes, “the cherry on top.”

This is in no way the fault of the author, nor is this a criticism from me. I just happen to be a very romantic person, and when I go for too long without encountering it in books, I start to feel a little sad. Okay, maybe more than a little sad.

Therefore, I started re-reading the first book in the Merry Gentry series. Because not only is there a 100% guarantee of romance (and maybe some steamy scenes, hehe), but also because I need some more Fae and Fae world before May 2017 (view my last Musing Monday post, to see why…if you haven’t already guessed, hahaha).

I read this book for the first time when I was a teenager (naughty me), and I am realizing now that my standards for “good writing” were a lot lower then, than they are now. Not to say that Hamilton’s writing is horrible. But it sure isn’t anything special. …Although in her defense, people reading her books don’t pick them up to experience her lyrical writing and eloquence.

They pick this book up for a the plot, the romance, and the sexy moments. For those of you who do enjoy adult books as well and are experiencing some A Court of Thorns and Roses and A Court of Mist and Fury withdrawals, and maybe want something light to tide you over, here’s the synopsis:

My name is Meredith ‘Merry’ Gentry, but of course it’s not my real name. I dare not even whisper my true name after dark for fear that one hushed word will travel over the night winds to the soft ear of my aunt, the Queen of Air and Darkness. She wants me dead. I don’t even know why…

I fled the high court of Faerie three years ago and have been in hiding ever since. As Merry Gentry, I am a private investigator for the Grey Detective Agency: Supernatural Problems, Magical Solutions. My magical skills, scorned at the courts of Faerie, are valued in the human world. Even by human standards, my magic isn’t flashy, which is fine by me. Flashy attracts attention and I can’t afford that.

Rumour has it that I am dead. Not quite. I am Princess Meredith NicEssus. To speak that name after dark is to call down a knock upon your door from a hand that can kill you with a touch. I have been careful, but not careful enough. The shadows have found me, and they are going to take me back home, one way or another.

So the running is over. But the fighting has just begun…

If you do decide to pick the book up, please don’t blame me for this one scene in the first quarter of the book. You’ll know which one, when you get to it. I found that it bothered me this time around, whereas I’m not sure how it affected me as a teen…because I hadn’t remembered it was there. Also, should I review this book when I’m done? Let me know!

Why yeeeeees! I’ve actually been collecting these worlds over the years, in a list in my head. Yes, that sounds weird. But anyway, here they are (not in any particular order)!
