Musing Mondays (#3)

ezgif-1545491241It’s Monday again, and I’m happy to announce that I have time to make another Musing Mondays post! For those of you who don’t know, Musing Mondays is hosted by the awesome MizB every Monday. This is a blog hop where participants have to answer one of the pre-set prompts of (I’m currently reading…; Up next I think I’ll read…; I bought the following book(s) in the past week…; I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…; I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…; I can’t wait to get a copy of…; I wish I could read ___, but…; OR I blogged about ____ this past week…). And you also have to answer an additional random question which is different every week!

You should all join! It’s lots of fun!

I’ll be switching things around again for this post, haha. I will muse first, and then answer the random weekly question afterward.

I’ve decided to talk about two things today! I hope that’s allowed, haha. I just cannot contain my excitement for either of these things!

The first, will relate to the prompt:

I’m currently reading…

TXd3I9KAs is to be expected, that once I finished reading A Court of Thorns and Roses (my review for which you can find here), I would move on to the second book in the series A Court of Mist and Fury.

I am only a few chapters in, but it’s already proven to me that it will not disappoint! Especially in comparison to A Court of Thorns and Roses. If I go by what other bookworms have told me about this book, ACOMAF will be better than ACOTAR!

I’m not entirely sure how that’s possible, since I thought ACOTAR was amazing. But I suppose we’ll see. Nothing in ACOMAF has indicated that my fellow bookworms are wrong!

I’m preparing myself for a wild ride, that’s for sure!

Cm3GV_jWIAAWOEMPs. I had bought ACOMAF in e-book format, because I told myself I was being bad for spending so much money on books, and I’ll end up being poor. Haha. But I failed, and ended up buying ACOMAF in hardcover form because A) nothing compares to holding a book in your hands, and physically flipping through its pages as you read, B) I prefer reading long books in physical format, rather than e-book, and C) I can’t just have ACOTAR and hardcover and ACOMAF in e-book format, it just isn’t right! They have to be displayed together! (end ramble here)

Now to the second prompt:

I’m super excited to tell you about…

My very first physical ARC (advanced reader copy)!!! Oh my goodness I am so excited! I was going to wait until next week to tell you for my next Musing Monday, but I would have died by then, hahaha.

CnGijb5W8AAq2ecSome more advanced book bloggers might frown at the fact that I am sharing with my readers that this is my physical ARC. But you know what? I’m excited, and I prefer to be honest and upfront about things.

I also want to share my excitement with my readers, because I adore them!

This is Nevernight by Jay Kristoff, one of the authors of the amazing Iluminae series, and it comes on August 9th!

I’ve been accepted for numerous e-book ARCs now, and while my excitement for those has not diminished (I mean they are all very awesome books), I feel almost like I’ve leveled up in the book blogging world! And as I’ve already mentioned in my rambles above, I’m one of those old school people who prefers to hold a physical copy of a book in their hands. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with e-books, or preferring e-books! Everyone can have their own preference, and I do love my Kobo for travel and being able to read my galleys. It’s light to hold, there’s no glare just like with a paperback or hardcover book. But I just happen to prefer paperback and hardcover books, call me old fashioned haha. I also can’t display e-books on my bookshelf, hahahaha. My bookshelf is always hungry!

Now, on to today’s random question!

Name a book that was turned into a movie, and completely desecrated (in your opinion).

Now, this is a very tough one. There are certain things that I like about movie versions, and certain things that I like in book versions. I can’t say that in my opinion, there was ever a book which was desecrated when turned into a film version. But that is likely because I never read said books, because of the movies, hahaha.

I’m guilty of doing that with Eragon for example. I really need to read that series.

Blood_and_chocolateWhile the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings movies left some things out, or did other things differently, I also cannot say that they were desecrated, as some do. I enjoy the books as books, and I enjoy the movies as movies.

Now, the book in particular that I’ll talk about is Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause. In this particular case, I saw the movie in 2007 when it came out, enjoyed it, and wanted to be immersed in that world once again. So I bought the book, which was published in 1999, and read it in one or two sittings.

blood_and_chocolate_ver2I was shocked! The book had gone completely differently from the movie, and I’d liked it more! So why had the film-makers decided to change it, when it already worked? Some personal moral issues? Who knows. I’d say more about it, but I don’t want to spoil anything for those of you who have not yet read the book!

Have any of you read Blood and Chocolate or seen the movie? Or both? What do you think of one or both of them?

    1. Yes, I definitely have to get to that series! I’ve been meaning to for years! And yes, the movie was pretty bad, but I could still see some goodness flickering through all the bad…which must be some of the quality of the book shining through the poop that was the film, haha.

Awesome post! And thanks so much! I’m sure you’ll get physical ARCs from publishers soon! Just keep trying! I don’t even know how many emails I’ve sent out. They had only sent me e-book ARCs, if they answered at all. Until now 🙂 so there’s hope! Haha.

And NetGalley is amazing. Great for starting out, and I think I’ll definitely keep using it 🙂 There are some really good books on there!

  1. Yui!!! I cosplayed her at this past Anime Expo.

LOL I do that too – I have both ebook and physical formats because I take my tablet when I travel but I read the physical book at home. Or maybe I get the digital first then if I love the book, I pick up a physical copy.

    1. Ahhh that’s awesome! Yui is the most adorable thing ever! Haha.

And yeah, e-book readers are more practical, but nothing beats holding an actual book in your hands, haha. And agreed! I did this with And I Darken also. I got it through NetGalley originally, read and LOVED it. So I pre-ordered it 🙂

        1. Yeah, it’s a gooder. I read it as an ARC, and it caught my eye because Vlad Tepes / Vlad the Impaler is like the most known part of my history (I’m Transylvanian), and I was very interested to see what White would do with a story that had already been re-told so often. And she did an amazing job!
