It’s update time! First of all, I wanted to apologize for the lack of reviews (and post in general) over the last few weeks. My boyfriend had 2 weeks off (and he doesn’t like to relax and sit around too much, but loves spending time with me…so you can put 2 and 2 together). I was also preparing for, and attending, multiple interviews, which also took up some of my time. And what about weekends, you ask? Those are just as insane, if not more so! But, there has been some progress, so please read on if you enjoy these posts!
– CURRENTLY READING –
Ta da! Are you thinking 4 books at once is a lot? Well, last week it was 5 (although one of them was a novella, so I shouldn’t really complain). I shouldn’t complain in general, because I signed up for all of these. That being said, the way in which I planned my reading schedule for this month and the next 2 to come, is as if I didn’t work full time, and would have a lot of time to devote to reading. Well, surprise! I was hired by a publishing company on August 4th (YAY! This is a dream come true for me. Seriously.) And while that means that I am now reading books for a living (still can’t believe it!), it also means that these are books which were not originally on my TBR, and that they are now a priority. We’ll see how things go, I suppose!
The Authentics by Abdi Nazemian: I’ve sadly only read a few pages of this so far, because I’ve been super swamped. I think that once I devote more time to it though, I’ll likely finish it in 2-3 sittings!
My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows: I’m reading this book along with some lovely ladies for the Calendar Girls August readalong! The info post and sign-up is right here, and I’m accepting participants, as long as you’re confident that you can catch up to us! This book is so much fun, and I regret waiting so long to read it, but at the same time, I’m glad to be reading it along with some very awesome people, and therefore being able to discuss it section by section! I will definitely be hosting more readalongs in the future, that’s for sure!
The Great Cannabis Conspiracy by Dr. Samuel Mellace: If you’ve been following my blog for even just a short while, you will have noticed that I don’t read very much nonfiction, at all. I have been trying to read more of it through, and have requested some nonfiction books for review here and there over the last few months. Why am I reading a book about cannabis though, you might wonder? First of all, I would like to state that I am not a recreational user, nor do I ingest cannabis for medical, or other, purposes. Now back to why I’m reading this book: As some of you may have heard, it is said that in July of 2018, cannabis will be completely legalized in Canada. I have also been very interested in the use of medical marijuana, but have never had the time to look into it more. This book has been very educational so far about what cannabis can do for patients, how it works (on a scientific level), and it’s role in ancient history (and I’m only about 40% into the book)! If this interests you as well, you can request a copy of it over on NetGalley!
The Sworn Virgin by Kristopher Dukes: Although this book came out on August 8th, I will be participating in the blog tour on August 29th! Even though I have some time left, I started reading this book a few weeks ago because I thought that I’d have time to finish it early. But, I was wrong! So I’m only a few chapters in, and have not picked it up for about 2ih weeks now? This is not to say that the book is in any way not enjoyable! It’s quite good so far, but I just have other priorities right now.
Sources: I received an physical ARC of The Authentics for review, borrowed a copy of My Lady Jane from the local library, received a digital ARC of The Great Cannabis Conspiracy for review, and was sent a physical ARC of The Sworn Virgin for review.
– CURRENTLY WATCHING –
Due to how busy I’ve been, the only thing I’ve really been watching over the last few weeks is the seventh season of Game of Thrones! It’s so so good though, and I really do not regret taking 1 hour out of each week to catch up on what’s happening with my three faves: Daenerys, Jon, and Tyrion!
– MOVIES –
Since my last update, I have watched Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, and reviewed it here. I’ve also seen Snatched with Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn on DVD, but am not sure if I’ll review it, unless readers request it. Other than that, I haven’t seen any of the other movies which I planned to see, though. My boyfriend usually takes me to the movies once a week, but his truck and car broke down within weeks of each other, so money has been going to other things. I’m sorry, you guys! Adulting sucks sometimes, eh?
I’m still planning on watching these movies (if they’re still in theaters when I go), or when they’re released on DVD:
Left to Right: War for the Planet of the Apes, The Dark Tower, The Big Sick, Jab Harry met Sejal, and The Hitman’s Bodyguard!
Sources: I see most of these movies in theaters with purchased tickets. If I review something that I’m watching on DVD or through Netflix, I will specify.
– CURRENT TOP 10-
I’ve been listening to a lot of piano music lately because it keeps me relaxed and focused while book editing! There are also no words there to distract me. I can’t list just 10 songs though, and I doubt that people are interested in my top 10 piano songs anyway, haha.
– CURRENTLY TRYING –
I am currently trying these products (all of which I’ve received complimentary through Influenster for review purposes):
Left to Right: The new liquid lipstick by Bite Beauty, and the Sinner and Saint scents by Kat Von D! Reviews coming soon!
Well I’ve been bingewatching iZombie (finally on season three) and trying to finish Switched at Birth (on the final season). Umm…I’ve been listening to an audiobook: The Punch Escrow by Tal M Klein, narrated by Matthew Mercer.
I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t enjoy watching iZombie haha. But I don’t like zombies, so maybe it shouldn’t be too surprising. Hope you’re enjoying it and the other show. Also, I’ve never hear of that book….which instantly makes me want to look it up! Thanks for sharing 😀
I tried to read the iZombie comics and I couldn’t do it. I’m not really a zombie fan either. I decided to give iZombie a try since Rob Thomas (who created Veronica Mars) was calling the shots. It’s actually pretty cool.
The Punch Escrow is an interesting sci-fi story so far. I basically decided to give it a try because I love Matt Mercer. He is the Dungeon Master for the show Critical Role and his range of voices is AMAZING. So, when he raved about this book he had the privilege of doing the audiobook, I absolutely had to get it.
Yeah I’ve heard about the comics too…but they don’t sound like something I’d enjoy? Might try again. Also, my sis was watching iZombie, and I kind of watch the first few eps with her….but just couldn’t get into it. But that’s okay, I have more time for my books this way.
And oh that’s so cool! Will definitely have to check it out.
Game Of Thrones is the only show I’m keeping up with. It’s becoming better and better with each ep!
A lot of 2017 kdramas are waiting to be watched..just started Save Me yesterday.
I’m planning to read Little Women this weekend 🙂
I’ve read very little about “The Authentics” but it sure has a pretty cover; love the pastel tones and scrolls. Hope you enjoy the movies you plan to see if you have the chance to see them. 🙂
Yessss the cover is beautiful! I also read a few pages last night, and the writing is really good and engaging 🙂
