It’s update time! And I’m really excited to be writing this…my first ever post on the self-hosted version of Flavia the Bibliophile (www.flaviathebibliophile.com)! I’m pretty excited, if you couldn’t tell! P.S. if you are a follower and are seeing this post on the blog, but did not receive an email that this post had gone up, please let me know so that I can figure out how to fix that! Also, please let me know if you have any other issues transferring over to this new domain! I’d be happy to help! I want the switch to be as smooth as possible for myself, and my followers. To find out what I’ve been reading, listening to, and watching since the last update, read on!
– CURRENTLY READING –
– Physical Books –
Renegades by Marissa Meyer: I’ve read up to the end of chapter 8 from this book, and it was so hard to stop there! It’s a very addictive book! I was worried because I’ve had bad luck with superhero narratives (other than the Marvel and some of the DC movies). But I had nothing to be worried again, because it’s very good! I should have never doubted Marissa Meyer! I mean, I absolutely adore her Lunar Chronicles series! I’m hosting a readalong for this book, actually, and you can find more info, as well as the link to the sign-up page here.
The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking: I’d been eyeing this book for quite some time, but always came up with an excuse to not read it. When I saw that The Little Book of Lykke would be coming out on September 7th of this year (also at the Penguin Fall event that I attended in early September), I just had to request both! I haven’t made any progress on this book, for the same reason as the others, but just want to say again that reading it makes me feel so cozy! I’ve implemented some of the suggestions from the book, and have already felt that my life has become more hygge!
The Breaking Light by Heather Hansen: I started this book last night, and am already on chapter nine! I really like the world, and find it to be quite interesting. The romance plot also has me intrigued! This is not a very long book, so I should be done with it and have it reviewed by the end of next week? But that also depends on how busy work will be for me!
Devotion by Meg Kerr: I really felt like reading something romantic, and have been eyeing this Austenesque book for some time. This is also the best time of year for me to read Austen, or Austen-type books, so this pick is perfect for me. I am a chapter in, but I really like the writing and style so far!
Sources: I received physical ARCs of these books in exchange for
honest reviews from their respective publishers.
– CURRENTLY LISTENING –
Stars Above by Marissa Meyer: This is the collection of short stories/novellas from The Lunar Chronicles! Some of them I was told to read/listen to before I get to Winter, the 4th full novel in the series. I think it’s so great that the author wrote these stories for us! I have listened to all of the stories in this that I could listen to, chronologically before Fairest. I will then listen to one other story before starting Winter, after-which I will listen to the last story in this book!
Fairest by Marissa Meyer: I am about halfway through this audiobook, and am quite intrigued although…not super into the story. I kind of want to skip it and go straight to Winter…but, I don’t want to miss anything either. Plus, it’s kind of cool to hear some backstory, and to see how some of the stuff connects. I love how interconnected everything in The Lunar Chronicles is, actually!
Sources: My local library.
– CURRENTLY WATCHING –
– TV Shows / Dramas –
I recently started watching The 100! I left off on season 3, episode 1 (or around there), and am now on season 3, episode 3. I’m hoping this show won’t let me dooooown. I think that my watching of it will be fairly slow, since I usually read or write in my free time, and normally only set aside time for some Netflix when I’m taking my lunch break during the work week, haha. I really need Bellarke to happen…like nao! (P.S. please don’t spoil it for me if it does happen, or even if it doesn’t hahaha. I’m really not a fan of spoilers.)
– MOVIES –
I watched The Hitman’s Bodyguard the other day, and while I wasn’t really in the mood for an action movie, and was all focused on transfering everything over to this .com site, I still half watched it, and found it pretty funny! Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds were really funny together! They’re not a combo that I would have thought would work, but they did. Salma Hayek was hilarious too! Plus, I generally love Ryan Reynolds…
You are on the reader!!! Congrats Flavia
Yay! Oh my gosh I was actually super worried that I wasn’t hahaha. So thank you for letting me know, and thank you again for your help!
Congrats on the move! I tried listening to Fairest, but it just reminded me of how much I *HATE* Levana! I decided I just didn’t want to spend any more time with her than I had to, so I returned it. Maybe you’ll enjoy it more than I did!
Thank you so much! And yeahhh I really don’t like her. Like, I kind of get how she became so messed up…but I still don’t really feel bad for her. You know? I’m just gonna push through at this point, because I’m already halfway through haha.
Thank you for reading and commenting! 😀
such a great post! Makes me want to get back into my update posts too 🙂
Kim
Awe I hope that you start doing those again! They’re fun to write 🙂
Thank you so much for reading!
I think I will have to start again, I did really enjoy them!
Wow you’re reading so many books! I can’t wait to hear how you feel about Renegades!!
Yeahhhh…my TBR is insane. And so am I! Hahaha
No issues with your posts showing up on my reader. Also, congrats on the move to self-hosting. That’s awesome.
Let’s see, what am I doing right now…Reading: The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden, and Kat and Meg Conquer the World by Anna Priemaza. Listening: just random music on my short drive to and from work. I should probably pick one of my audiobooks to listen to instead. Watching: I’m rewatching Supergirl and Flash, just because I enjoy them and I can have them on as background noise while I do other stuff. Oh, and I saw Justice League over the weekend. Trying: currently I am attempting to plan a Harry Potter marathon/party with a couple of games, lots of food, and some Harry Potter themed alcoholic beverages. I have a month to figure it all out and prepare it all.
Yay! And thank you for letting me know! Also thank you 🙂 it feels unreal, but I’m super happy with the move so far.
The Girl in the Tower is the sequel to The Bear and the Nightingale, right? I meant to read the first book when it came out, but wasn’t approved for a digital or physical copy haha. So…it’s remained unread by me so far. I have Kat and Meg Conquer the World sitting on my shelf, but have no idea when I’ll read it. What do you think of both books so far? Also, audiobooks are so great for driving. Especially long drives. I’ll be starting the audiobook for Timekeeper tomorrow while driving out of town for work actually 😀
I get what you mean about background noise! And ooo how was Justice League? I’ve heard mixed things.
That’s so neat! I always wanted to host or attend an HP party/marathon! I actually went to this HP themed bar earlier this year, and found their menu to be interesting. Here’s a link to it, in case you need inspiration http://www.thelockhart.ca/drink-menu/ They offered virgin cocktails as well, but I don’t see them listed on the online version of the menu 🙁 sorry. Good luck with your planning!
Yeah, The Girl in the Tower is the sequel to The Bear and the Nightingale. I’m not far in but I’m liking it so far. And I am so enjoying Kat and Meg Conquer the World. It is light and fun and I see a great female friendship developing which is awesome.
I don’t have long drives. My work commute is ten minutes and my drive to my mom’s house is only fifteen minutes.
I went in to Justice League with low expectations so it was better than I expected. I basically went for Aquaman and Wonder Woman. I wanted to dislike Flash because I love the TV version so much, but he was adorably awkward and amusing.
Thanks for the HP drink inspiration.
The Hitman’s Bodyguard is so hilarious haha! My family were all laughing out loud watching it
Haha yes it definitely made me laugh quite a bit! I’d probably not watch it again…
yeah it’s not really one of those movies that i’d watch twice
I’ve never even heard of The Hitman’s Bodyguard but it sounds hilarious! My husband was watching The 100 …. it looks really good!
Ohhh yeah it was definitely funny but nothing like out of this world haha. And yeah The 100 is super good! I just got distracted from it at the beginning of season 3 when it was airing…not sure why haha
I get distracted with tv shows all the time and forget I’m watching them. lol. I always start reading a book or something!
Hahaha same!
