⤖ My Review ⬻
Before diving into Chuck Tingle’s Camp Damascus, I was unfamiliar with his writing, having never picked up any of his books before. I was aware of the romances he writes, and how they seem maybe satyrical in nature, but Camp Damascus seemed to have a completely different vibe, so I don’t think reading his other books would have given me enough of an idea for what I was in for.
I started reading Camp Damascus while staying in a cabin that was creepily very similar to the cabins depicted on the cover. And I’ll admit, I still don’t know if that was the worst or best idea I ever had because it definitely amped up my fear (which is great for the reading experience, but wasn’t the best for my quality of sleep, haha).
This book hooked me right from the start! I loved how Camp Damascus dove right into the horror and how quickly things escalated. I loved the pacing, the characters, the setting and also appreciated some of the important considerations Camp Damascus shed light on. This book gave me goosebumps and shivers down my spine while also making me think about the ways that our society could do so much better.
If I’d had more reading time available, I would have devoured this book in one go! I truly hope that Tingle will write more horror novels (or heck, even short stories). And I’m thinking I’ll also give his romance books a try! I highly recommend this one to fans of horror and even those looking to give it a try!
I’m so glad you loved this! I LOVE this you read it in a cabin, how immersive! I’m hoping to pick it up in the next couple of weeks and really excited about it.
Hahaha I thought it was quite fitting but also terrifying! I hope you enjoy it too when you pick it up, Destiny! Thanks for commenting 🙂
It was definitely immersive! And spooky haha. I hope you ended up picking it up and that you enjoyed it as much as I did 🙂
