Calendar Girls (April 2020): National Library Week: Favorite Book You Discovered At The Library

Welcome to my April 2020 Calendar Girls Books post! And for those of you who missed it, there have been some updates made to this blog event. You can read all about the updates here. Additionally, Adrienne @ Darque Dreamer Reads has resumed co-hosting Calendar Girls Books alongside myself and Dani @ Mousai Books! The theme for this month is National Library Week: Favourite Book You Discovered At the Library and I have to say that this was one of the easiest choices I ever made (especially because it’s been quite some time since I browsed for books at the actual library as opposed to Instagram, Twitter, publisher websites, NetGalley, and Edelweiss)!

⤖ About Calendar Girls ⬻

Temporarily hosted by Darque Reader Reads, Flavia the Bibliophile and Dani @ Mousai Books. Formerly hosted by Katie @ Never Not Reading and Darque Reader Reads. From Katie’s blog: Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile, and will now be hosted by me, Katie. It is designed to ignite bookish discussions among readers, and was inspired by the 1961 Neil Sedaka song, Calendar Girl. Just like the song, each month has a different theme. Each blogger picks their favorite book from the theme, and on the first Monday of the month reveals their pick in a Calendar Girls post. Make sure to post back to the hostess’s post, and I will make a master list for the month. The master lists allow everyone to see the other Calendar Girls’ picks and to pop on over to their blogs. Thus, we all get to chat about books and even make some new friends!

After Dark
by Jayne Castle

⤖ Synopsis ⬻

Life is tough these days for Lydia Smith, licensed para-archaeologist. Seriously stressed-out from a nasty incident in an alien tomb, she is obliged to work part-time in Shrimpton’s House of Ancient Horrors, a very low-budget museum. She has a plan to get her career back on track, but it isn’t going well. Stuff keeps happening.

Take the dead body that she discovered in one of the sarcophagus exhibits. Who needed that? Finding out that her new client, Emmett London, is one of the most dangerous men in the city isn’t helping matters either. And that’s just today’s list of setbacks. Here in the shadows of the Dead City of Old Cadence, things don’t really heat up until After Dark.

⤖ My Thoughts ⬻

I read After Dark while in my teens (I went through a romance phase hahaha) and remember really loving this title! It was one of the first science fiction books I ever read, and I loved the world! I also loved that it was science fiction + romance. I’ve been meaning to pick this series back up, as well as Jayne Castle’s St. Helene series again soon, because I loved both, am not sure if I ever finished them, and I want to see if I still feel the same!

  1. I’m honestly pretty excited about this bingo. I don’t read very fast so I probably won’t win, but it will be nice to feel like I’m accomplishing something 🙂
