Misha is a jaded scriptwriter who has been working in Hollywood for years, and has just been nominated for his first Oscar. But when he’s pressured by his producers to kill off a gay character in the upcoming season finale―”for the algorithm”―Misha discovers that it’s not that simple.
As he is haunted by his past, and past mistakes, Misha must risk everything to find a way to do what’s right―before it’s too late.
⤖ My Review ⬻
I’d never read Chuck Tingle before Camp Damascus came out last year, and while I’m aware of their other non-horror titles, I hadn’t read them, and I still haven’t since. I’m honestly a lot more interested in Tingle’s horror work! I absolutely loved Camp Damascus, so I was very much excited to read Bury Your Gays when it was announced. I had to get my hands on a copy and I’m so grateful to Tor Nightfire for sending me an advanced copy!
When I did dive into the book, I was hooked from the very start. I absolutely love Tingle’s writing and the eerie atmosphere they create with it. The tension builds in such a unique way that had me flipping pages furiously. I also loved the main character and his friends, and really felt for them from the start! Their realness was appealing to me, and I found myself completely invested in their survival and journey.
I also really love the author’s approach to horror in general—I’m always thoroughly and simultaneously entertained and creeped out! Predict where the plot will go? Forget about it. I swear, with both Camp Damascus and Bury Your Gays so far, I got goosebumps by the first or second chapter, and I love it!
I could continue raving but am not sure what else to talk about without giving away key parts of the plot. Just know that I highly recommend Bury Your Gays (and Tingle’s previous horror book) to established horror fans as well as those looking to dip their toe (or entire leg, hehe) into the genre! I cannot wait to see what Tingle will write next.
