I should be making a 1st Chapter 1st Paragraph Tuesday post, but I just don’t have it in me today. Sorry guys. But on the other hand, I do have it in me to put up a Book Haul post! Only my second one so far…I think I missed a few in late May and June. I may talk about those on Thursday, for a #ThrowbackThursday sorta thing.

But now on to le first book haul of July!

Did you guys know that Valuevillage sells used books! I didn’t know until about a month ago! So many used books that need new homes…

And yes, that is what I tell myself in order to allow myself to spend money on used books. I am giving them new homes, rather than letting them sit on the shelves, unloved!

Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke

This is the third book in the series, as well as the end of the series. Now as embarrassing as this may be, I have never read Inkheart or any of the others, but I’ve seen the movie! Even though some people said that the movie was a flop, I did enjoy it overall! I really loved the world, and characters. So I think I’ll enjoy the books even more once I get to them! I have Inkheart in paperback, and now Inkdeath in hardcover, so now I’m just missing Inkspell!

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

I keep hearing about this book! I was very surprised to see it on the used books shelves, because I just assumed that people would want to keep this book. Especially with it becoming a major motion picture. I’ve heard things about this book mentioned in my Women and Crime class in my last term of school, but I don’t know if they’re spoilers or not, so I’ll refrain from mentioning any of it here.

A Tolkien Miscellany by J.R.R. Tolkien

If you know me even a just a little, you will know that I am crazy about anything Tolkien. I tend to have luck in finding rare Tolkien books, or Tolkien books which no one really knows about! Including me…until I see them on the shelf and snatch them up! A few months ago I found a hardcover version of Smith of Wootton Major, which is a book of his that I had never heard of! I mean I’m not like
the best Tolkien fan out there, but I’ve read The Hobbit, all three Lord of the Rings books, and The Silmarilion, so I kind of know my stuff, haha. I was very excited to find A Tolkien Miscellany yesterday! This book contains the story of Smith of Wootton Major as well, but it also contains many other short stories. They are sectioned into “Tree and Leaf,” “The Adventures of Tom Bombadil,” and “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.” Those of you who have read the LOTR series, rather than just have watched the movies, will know who Tom Bombadil is and will know to an extent just how excited I am about this find! And I think I’ve read part of “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” for my class about Arthurian legend, but I don’t quite remember…it was years ago.

Horns by Joe Hill

I’ve been wanting to read this book for some time. Having always been drawn to morbid or creepy books (such as most of Poppy Z. Brite’s writing), I thought that this book would be a good fit for me. I initially saw the movie trailer, and then checked to see if there was a book I could read before watching the film. Now that I’ve heard that the movie is crap if you’ve read the book first though, I’m not quite sure how to proceed! What do you guys think?

Hidden Warrior by Lynn Flewelling

And finally, Hidden Warrior by Lynn Flewelling! I was very surprised to see this book on the shelf, as Flewelling’s work isn’t too well known. But I was also incredibly pleased, because I had wanted this book for like EVER. I read the first in the trilogy The Bone Doll’s Twin a few years ago and it was incredible, as well as incredibly heartbreaking. I absolutely love Flewelling’s style of storytelling, and I like that she was one of the first in fantasy (that I know of) to write about couples which are not heterosexual, or do not fit the usual categories in general. And this applies to both of her series, the Tamir Triad (which is the series of which Hidden Warrior is a part), and The Nightrunner Series too!
