Here are the books (on my radar) that are celebrating their Book Birthdays today (a.k.a. books that are being published in Canada today)! Happiest of Book Birthdays to all of these lovely new releases!
Title: New Orleans Rush
Author: Kelly Siskind
Type: Fiction
Genre: Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Everafter Romance
Falling for your surly boss is a rotten idea.
Letting him saw you in half is even worse…
Beatrice Baker may be a struggling artist, but she believes all hardships have silver linings…until she follows her boyfriend to New Orleans and finds him with another woman. Instead of turning those lemons into lemonade, she drinks lemon drop martinis and keys the wrong man’s car.
Now she works for Huxley Marlow of the Marvelous Marlow Boys, getting shoved in boxes as an on-stage magician’s assistant. A cool job for some, but Bea’s been coerced into the role to cover her debt. She also maybe fantasizes about her boss’s adept hands and what else they can do.
She absolutely will not fall for him, or kiss him senseless. Until she does. The scarred, enigmatic Huxley has unwittingly become her muse, unlocking her artistic dry spell, but his vague nightly activities are highly suspect. The last time Beatrice trusted a man, her bank account got drained and she almost got arrested. Surely this can’t end that badly…right?
Title: How (Not) to Ask a Boy to Prom
Author: S.J. Goslee
Type: Fiction
Genre: YA, Contemporary,
LGBT, Romance
Publisher: Roaring Book Press
Nolan Grant is sixteen, gay, and (definitely) still a virgin. He’s never had a boyfriend, or even been kissed. It’s not like Penn Valley is brimming with prospects. And when his big sister stages an elaborate “prom-posal” so Nolan can ask out his not-so-secret crush, Nolan freezes. He’s saved from further embarrassment by bad boy Bern, who, for his own reasons, offers to fake-date Nolan.
Nolan thinks it’s the perfect way to get Daphne off his back and spend the rest of the year drawing narwhals, tending to plants, and avoiding whatever died under his bed a few weeks ago. What he doesn’t think about is Bern’s ex-girlfriend, who seriously wants to kill him.
Title: The Tiger at Midnight
Author: Swati Teerdhala
Type: Fiction
Genre: YA, Fantasy
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
(HarperCollins)
Esha is a legend, but no one knows. It’s only in the shadows that she moonlights as the Viper, the rebels’ highly skilled assassin. She’s devoted her life to avenging what she lost in the royal coup, and now she’s been tasked with her most important mission to date: taking down the ruthless General Hotha.
Kunal has been a soldier since childhood, training morning and night to uphold the power of King Vardaan. His uncle, the general, has ensured that Kunal never strays from the path—even as a part of Kunal longs to join the outside world, which has been growing only more volatile.
Then Esha’s and Kunal’s paths cross—and an unimaginable chain of events unfolds. Both the Viper and the soldier think they’re calling the shots, but they’re not the only players moving the pieces. As the bonds that hold their land in order break down and the sins of the past meet the promise of a new future, both rebel and soldier must make unforgivable choices.
Inspired by ancient Indian history and Hindu mythology.
Title: If I’m Being Honest
Author: Emily Wibberly and Austin Siegmund-Broka
Type: Fiction
Genre: YA, Contemporary
Publisher: Viking Books
for Young Readers
(Penguin Random House)
High school senior Cameron Bright’s reputation can be summed up in one word: bitch. It’s no surprise she’s queen bee at her private L.A. high school—she’s beautiful, talented, and notorious for her cutting and brutal honesty. So when she puts her foot in her mouth in front of her crush, Andrew, she fears she may have lost him for good.
In an attempt to win him over, Cameron resolves to “tame” herself, much like Katherine in Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. First, she’ll have to make amends with those she’s wronged, which leads her to Brendan, the guy she labelled with an unfortunate nickname back in the sixth grade. At first, Brendan isn’t all that receptive to Cameron’s ploy. But slowly, he warms up to her when they connect over the computer game he’s developing. Now if only Andrew would notice…
But the closer Cameron gets to Brendan, the more she sees he appreciates her personality—honesty and all—and wonders if she’s compromising who she is for the guy she doesn’t even want.
OOoo! I wanna read the New Orleans one!
I’m curious to see what you’d think of it! 😀
The Tiger at Midnight looks just amazing <3 I'm so excited to read it, if I can make space on my TBR…
Right? And I feel your pain about finding space on the TBR haha
I’m hoping my copy of The Tiger at Midnight arrives in the next few days. It sounds awesome…and that cover is gorgeous.
I hope that you got your copy by now! And sorry about the late reply!
I’ve almost finished reading it, and it is sooo good. And haha, that’s okay.
Ahhh I’m glad you’re enjoying it!
I’ve been reading so many great books, and it’s going to make my top ten reads from Jan-June 2019 difficult to choose.
Woaaaa well I can’t wait to see the final list!
I’m curious to see if any books from the end of May and June are going to complicate my list even more, lol.
Lol hopefully not!
The more contenders, the bigger my honorable mention list. Haha, let’s recommend all the books.
Then again, I’ve read like 82 books already this year, so I’m glad that my favorites list is a comparable size.
Woa 82? I’m only at 48 hahaha
Probably 30-ish of those are manga and graphic novels. And quite a few were fast paced middle grade reads. I’ve had a good reading year so far.
Ooooo I need to read more manga and graphic novels hehe.
They are great, especially during readathons. It definitely helps to boost your reading output numbers.
