Welcome to the A Darker Shade of Magic readalong! I’ve been meaning to read this book for so long! I’ve also owned it for almost just as long, but just never got around to reading it because of review books and the density of my reading schedule. I really need to leave some room in my schedule for TBR books like this, and I guess I have been doing that, since I’ve been reading My Lady Jane and hosting a readalong for that one as well (throughout August)! And I’m doing it again in September. But enough rambles.
Myself and some of the ladies in a bookworm Twitter chat have been talking about buddy reading this book for some months, and found that September works best for most of us! When I suggested that I host a readalong (because it helps everyone read at the same pace, helps participants discuss the book in one place together, and because I’ve been having so much fun with hosting the My Lady Jane readalong)! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them in the comments below, or contact me directly through social media, or my Contact page (which will send your question directly to my inbox)!

Synopsis: Kell is one of the last Antari—magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel Londons; Red, Grey, White, and, once upon a time, Black. Kell was raised in Arnes—Red London—and officially serves the Maresh Empire as an ambassador, traveling between the frequent bloody regime changes in White London and the court of George III in the dullest of Londons, the one without any magic left to see. Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they’ll never see. It’s a defiant hobby with dangerous consequences, which Kell is now seeing firsthand. After an exchange goes awry, Kell escapes to Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She first robs him, then saves him from a deadly enemy, and finally forces Kell to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure. Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they’ll first need to stay alive.

I know that I’m putting this post up a bit early, but I found that some people needed more time to get their hands on a copy of the book! Also, those who have read the book are welcome to join! Just please be sure to discuss things in the appropriate discussion posts (to avoid spoiling future chapters for those reading the book for the first time), and of course, please no spoilers in general!

I am definitely interested, especially if I can make this book work for any of my challenges (which I already have all planned out and cannot deviate from cause I need to read like 40 more books by December). I think your dates are off? They say August…
Yes I will 😀 I have audibooks of the whole series hehe. It doesn’t fit any of my category challenges but I bought it in 2016 so it DOES count for my TBR pile challenge quota so I will squeeze it in since you’re doing the readalong 🙂
Hmmmm this might just be the kick in the pants that I need to finally get to this one! I’ve got a busy reading month planned for September (so I’m not making any promises) but I will attempt it and try to keep up!
I just put sticky notes on all the parts I need to read and when they need to be read by. I can do this!!
Woo! I did that with My Lady Jane haha and you just reminded me that I need to do that with ADSOM now hehehe. It actually helps!
Have fun! I absolutely LOVE this book and will be reading the sequel for the reading challenge I’m in.
I hope you have a grea time reading it!
Thanks so much! I hope you enjoy the sequel!!! 😀
Thanks so much! You won’t be joining us? D:
i already read it!
Aweee did you like it? And you could always read it again 😉 or just join in our discussions!
I need to join this readalong. I have been wanting to read this book for so long, but never picked it up. It sounds like fun to read a book with other people. 🙂
Yes! Same here! And I do hope that you join us 🙂
I may pass on this one. I try not to read anything that has very strong language in it and from my research this might not pass. Can anyone who has read it confirm/deny?
I can post a poll on Twitter and see!
That’d be great!
This is what it’s looking like so far! https://twitter.com/flavbibliophile/status/899697765466468353
So I think I will join, since it looks like it’s probably fine – thanks for doing the poll!
Ooo! I hope you love this one! I think I’ll pass just because it would be a reread for me and I have so many other things to read for the first time but I can’t wait to see your thoughts
Happy reading guys! I loved the trilogy! I may pop in for discussions along the way!
Yaaaay! Would love to see you adding to the discussions and sharing your thoughts 😀
Yeah I’ll probably do that 🙂
[…] Thank you to everyone who participated in July and August’s readalongs. Unfortunately, as many of you saw in our poll last week, there will not be a readalong in September. Flavia and I are both very busy at the moment (switching jobs / starting school / etc.) and cannot guarantee that we’ll have enough time to devote to reading and hosting discussions for another book on top of our current reading schedules. We are sorry for this inconvenience and plan to clear our schedules to host a readalong in October! (P.S. Flavia is also a traitor and has a not-Calendar-Girls related readalong (for A Darker Shade of Magic by Victoria Schwab) planned for September! If you haven’t heard about it yet, you can learn more about it here. […]
