The Poe Tarot features the whimsical and, at times, macabre black-and-white illustrations by mixed-media artist/author Trisha Leigh Shufelt and quotes from the literary works and thoughts of Edgar Allan Poe. Images are directly inspired by such classics as The Raven, Annabel Lee, The Masque of the Red Death, and many more while utilizing traditional Tarot archetypes. The Poe Tarot follows Poe as the main character, navigating through the Fool’s journey while diving deep into the subconscious realms to unveil what only he can through the wisdom of his works and the teachings of the Tarot.

⤖ My Review ⬻

Those who have been following my blog or any of my social media accounts, will know that I’m a big fan of Edgar Allan Poe’s work. For those who are newer to me, hello! I’m a big fan of Edgar Allan Poe’s work. Haha. Now that’s take care of, I’ll dive into my review!

When the opportunity to review The Poe Tarot deck, I definitely jumped on it. Another thing to know about me is that I love tarot! I’m not the best at reading tarot card spreads, but I’m working on it (and I grew up with tarot in my household).

The first thing I notice about the cards was the metallic red edges—they’re definitely a nice touch! I also liked that the card stock was good quality—nice and thick while still easy to shuffle and work with. I also liked most of the illustrations on the cards, as well as the choices of illustrations for specific cards.

Some of them, however, I did think could have used more revisions. And for other cards, I found that maybe a certain illustration wasn’t the best choice for the card—but both of these are definitely subjective things. And for all I know, maybe they were purposefully created and/or chosen to make us feel unsettled or like something isn’t quite right… All in all, a really neat tarot deck!
