Temporarily hosted by Flavia the Bibliophile and Dani @ Mousai Books. Normally hosted by Katie @ Never Not Reading and Darque Reader Reads. From Katie’s blog: Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile, and will now be hosted by me, Katie. It is designed to ignite bookish discussions among readers, and was inspired by the 1961 Neil Sedaka song, Calendar Girl. Just like the song, each month has a different theme. Each blogger picks their favorite book from the theme, and on the first Monday of the month reveals their pick in a Calendar Girls post. Make sure to post back to the hostess’s post, and I will make a master list for the month. The master lists allow everyone to see the other Calendar Girls’ picks and to pop on over to their blogs. Thus, we all get to chat about books and even make some new friends!

  1. You put the entire Toby Daye series in your honorable mentions, but she couldn’t beat out ACOMAF? Interesting. I tried to read the first Toby Daye book years and years ago and I only made it a few chapters in. I think it just wasn’t the time for me to read it. Perhaps now I’m in the right reader position to give the series another try.

    Great choices!

    1. Hehe I left out my least favourite October Daye books 😉 but yeah included most of them. I’m just so passionate about ACOMAF though…it just always seems to win out in the end hahaha. And I will say that the first October book is WEIRD…and is mostly setting up the world for the reader and such. Book 2 also wasn’t my favourite, but book 3 is one of my favourites from the series 🙂 and that’s where it really picked up for me.

      1. Good to know for when I finally decide to give the series a try again. I absolutely adore McGuire’s Wayward Children series, so I might end up picking up either Toby Daye or InCryptid sometime in the near future.

          1. I’d say start with the Wayward Children books if they interest you, because they’re more novellas than anything. Each is only like 206 pages, so they’re very quick and easy to read. But also so wonderfully diverse and complex and fantastic. I love them; There’s 5 out so far, with a 6th coming out next January.

            1. Ooooo yeah I have some of them. Not the first book though so I’ll have to pick it up from the library. And I’m so glad that you love them! That’s really encouraging 🙂

              1. For the most part you don’t have to read them in publication order. The only exception honestly is that you have to read Down Among the Sticks and Bones before you read Come Tumbling Down. I mean, I read them in publication order, but even Seanan McGuire has said that each book technically stands on its own.

                  1. Yeah, each book follows a different one of the Wayward Children, and there are sometimes references to the previous books, but nothing really spoilery.

I just tend to lean towards the preference of reading books in publication order, because I feel like the author wrote/released them that way for a reason. But hey, as long as people are enjoying the books, the rest doesn’t really matter.

                    1. Ohhhhh I didn’t know that! That’s a neat way to do a series. And I think that I tend to read in chronological order unless the author recommends I do it the other way (or others tell me there are spoilers say in a prequel that came out after the actual first book in the series)
