Calendar Girls (December 2019): Christmahanakwanza (Best Diverse Cast)

I can’t believe it’s time for the last Calendar Girls Books post of the year! (And I’m not even posting it at the beginning of the month like I normally do. It’s, in fact, more than halfway through December and I still can’t believe it’s December!) As some of you may know, my boyfriend and I picked up our new fur baby (Nox) at the beginning of the month and while we love him to bits and he’s a joy to be around, he’s also been keeping me very busy (as all children do, haha). This is the first reason why this post is so late…while the other is that this month’s prompt, Christmahanakwanza (Best Diverse Cast), really made me think and had me really comb through my Goodreads “read” shelf. In the end, my top choice was kind of obvious to me and it was rather the runners up that took me a bit longer to collect and sort through. But that’s enough rambles out of me! Continue reading to see my picks, and I’ll see you in early 2020 with my next Calendar Girls Books post!

Hosted by Katie @ Never Not Reading and Darque Reader Reads. Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile, and will now be hosted by me, Katie. It is designed to ignite bookish discussions among readers, and was inspired by the 1961 Neil Sedaka song, Calendar Girl. Just like the song, each month has a different theme. Each blogger picks their favorite book from the theme, and on the first Monday of the month reveals their pick in a Calendar Girls post. Make sure to post back to the hostess’s post, and I will make a master list for the month. The master lists allow everyone to see the other Calendar Girls’ picks and to pop on over to their blogs. Thus, we all get to chat about books and even make some new friends!

Criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker has been offered wealth beyond his wildest dreams. But to claim it, he’ll have to pull off a seemingly impossible heist:

Break into the notorious Ice Court
(a military stronghold that has never been breached)

Retrieve a hostage
(who could unleash magical havoc on the world)

Survive long enough to collect his reward
(and spend it)

Kaz needs a crew desperate enough to take on this suicide mission and dangerous enough to get the job done – and he knows exactly who: six of the deadliest outcasts the city has to offer. Together, they just might be unstoppable – if they don’t kill each other first.
