Welcome to the City of Sin, where casino families reign, gangs infest the streets…and secrets hide in every shadow.

Enne Salta was raised as a proper young lady, and no lady would willingly visit New Reynes, the so-called City of Sin. But when her mother goes missing, Enne must leave her finishing school—and her reputation—behind to follow her mother’s trail to the city where no one survives uncorrupted.

Frightened and alone, her only lead is a name: Levi Glaisyer. Unfortunately, Levi is not the gentleman she expected—he’s a street lord and a con man. Levi is also only one payment away from cleaning up a rapidly unraveling investment scam, so he doesn’t have time to investigate a woman leading a dangerous double life. Enne’s offer of compensation, however, could be the solution to all his problems.

Their search for clues leads them through glamorous casinos, illicit cabarets and into the clutches of a ruthless mafia donna. As Enne unearths an impossible secret about her past, Levi’s enemies catch up to them, ensnaring him in a vicious execution game where the players always lose. To save him, Enne will need to surrender herself to the city…

And she’ll need to play.

Ace of Shades was hands down the best book that I read this month! Ah! It was so good! When I first heard about this book, I wasn’t sure if the plot was for me. But I decided to follow my instincts rather than my head, and I’m so glad that I did, because I absolutely loved this book! This was the kind of book for me where I would start panicking when I saw how there was less and less left for me to read the more that I progressed into the story. I loved the world (which is a fantasy setting that reminds me a little of 1920s and 30s New York or Chicago, but with magic), I loved the mood and atmosphere, I loved the characters (and character development), I loved the relations between characters, I loved the magic system, and I loved the plot and pacing of the book!

I think that this is the fastest that I read a book in a while, and it wasn’t a short book either. (Also, I am in no way complaining about the length! If anything, I would have liked it to be longer so that it wouldn’t have ended so quickly!) It’s been a few days now since I finished this book, and I cannot stop thinking about it! The book hangover is great with this one, haha. I absolutely loved Enne and Levi (and their chemistry was insane!), and adored some of the supporting characters as well. And I’m sure that they will all grow on me even more as the series continues. I am dying to know what will happen next, and will most definitely be reading this series all the way to the end. I highly recommend this dark, sexy, and twisty book!
