Down the TBR Hole, weekly meme

Down the TBR Hole #3

I missed posting for every other meme this week, but now that Christmas stuff has settled down and I’m happily sitting home alone (and therefore undistracted and able to write), I was able to complete this one for you guys. Yay! Sadly though…I didn’t do so well at removing TBR books from the list this week as last week. Continue reading to see how badly I failed!

For those of you hearing about this meme for the first time, here’s some more info from the blog of the creator, Lia @ Lost in a Story:

Down The TBR Hole is a meme that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when youre scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well thats going to change!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if youre feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

Just from glancing at the books that I’ll be talking about today, I think that this Down the TBR Hole post will be a little less successful than the last one hahaha.

Carrie Ryan’s The Forest of Hands and Teeth

This one sounds super creepy, and if you’ve been following me for a while (particularly over the course of Halloween), you will know that I really enjoy creepy books that are well-done. I’m not too crazy about the prospect of zombies in this one, but The Forest of Hands and Teeth has some good ratings on Goodreads, so it will be:

Maggie Stiefvater’s The Raven Boys

Recently, I read my first ever Maggie Stiefvater book, and loved it! All of Maggie’s other books have been on my TBR since I started blogging, but I may definitely have to move them up the list now. So this is:

Holly Black’s The Coldest Girl in Coldtown

I’ve heard good things, and bad things about this one. But what’s most important to me is that this is Holly Black (whose books I love), and that apparently it’s a new take on vampires. So it’s:

Maggie Stiefvater’s Shiver

I’ve heard more bad things than good things about this book and the series that it’s a part of. I know that it’s one of Maggie’s earlier series…and will keep that in mined. Despite this, I was tempted to remove this book from my “to read” list, but I bought the first 3 books from a thrift shop last year, so I kind of have to at least give them a try. It’s:

Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me

This series has been on my TBR from when I started blogging as well, long before Furthermore and Whichwood came out. Despite this, I read a sneak peek from Furthermore and am currently reading Whichwood … before reading the Shatter Me series. I just haven’t had the urge to read it yet I guess? But I do own the first book in the series, and will definitely give it a try …sometime. So it’ll be:

THANK YOU FOR READING THIS DOWN THE TBR HOLE POST! ARE ANY OF THESE BOOKS ON YOUR TBR LIST? WHY? WHY NOT? OR WERE THEY ON YOUR LIST BEFORE YOU REMOVED THEM FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER? LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS BELOW!

  1. I own the Coldest Girl in Coldtown, but I haven’t gotten around to reading it. I DNFed the Raven Boys though, it just was too hard for me to understand. I couldn’t figure out what was going on.

    1. Yeah I’ve heard mixed things! But I’ve liked everything else by Holly Black, so I’ll have to give If a try. And oh nooo about the Raven Boys! I’ve mostly heard good things about that one. I’m sorry that happened 🙁

  2. Omg! This post is filled with so many amazing books. I will say, Maggie Stiefvater’s books are either a hit or miss for most people. For me, I continued reading The Raven Cycle because I absolutely adored the characters. I still have yet to read the rest of the series, but I can’t wait to see where Maggie Stiefvater takes her characters. I have also read Shatter Me and loved it! As for Holly Black’s novel, I really couldn’t find myself enjoying it. It was alright, but definitely couldn’t beat a series like Vampire Academy.

    1. Right?! No wonder I couldn’t remove them from my TBR hehehe. I will definitely have to try The Raven Cycle. I’m glad to hear that about Shatter Me too! And yeah, heard mixed things about the Holly Black book. And I’ve never tried Vampire Academy hehe
