Author: Jo Treggiari
Type: Fiction
Genre: YA, Horror, Thriller, Mystery, Suspense
Publisher: Penguin Teen (Penguin Random House)
Published: June 5, 2018

Ari Sullivan is alive—for now.

She wakes at the bottom of a cistern, confused, injured and alone, with only the shadowy recollection of a low-pitched voice and a gloved hand. No one can hear her screams. And the person who put her there is coming back. The killer is planning a gruesome masterpiece, a fairytale tableau of innocence and blood, meticulously designed.

Until now, Ari was happy to spend her days pining for handsome, recent-arrival Stroud Bellows, fantasizing about their two-point-four-kids-future together. Safe in her small hometown of Dempsey Hollow. But now her community has turned very dangerous—and Ari may not be the only intended victim.

As the Penguin Teen Canada Twitter account put it in this tweetBlood Will Out is definitely not for the faint of heart! If you’re looking for a thriller that will make your skin crawl, that will keep you on the edge of your seat (literally and metaphorically), and that will possibly keep you up at night thinking about it (either in fear, or due to your being upset that you’re trying to sleep instead of reading more of Blood Will Out) this is the book for you! As is mentioned on the back of my ARC, Blood Will Out is definitely a Silence of the Lambs for YA readers. It’s been a while since a book gave me goosebumps and kept me awake like this!

The book is told from the perspective of Ari, our main character, (in the third person) as well as the perspective of her kidnapper (in the first person). Despite this, however, I wasn’t able to guess who the kidnapper is until it was revealed! What a roller coaster of emotions this books was! As I mentioned above, this book kept me awake because A) I was a little bit scared to sleep, and B) because I wanted to continue reading it to see what happens, rather than trying to sleep. I’m a slow reader, but definitely flew through this book, not only because of it’s shorter length, but also because it was highly addictive, and because the author kept me guessing until the very end about certain details. I definitely recommend this book to those who enjoy thrillers with quite an amount of violence, gore, and action, and also with a focus on family and friendship.

– About the Author –

From Jo Treggiari‘s Goodreads Page: My new book, BLOOD WILL OUT- a YA psychological thriller, will be published by Penguin Teen in Summer 2018. Other books include Ashes, Ashes (Scholastic, 2011) and Love You Like Suicide, a novella (Fierce Ink, 2013). I was born in London, England but grew up in Canada, Roccasinibalda, Italy and California.Somehow I found myself on the beautiful south shore of Nova Scotia, where I now live. I used to work in the music industry and eventually owned my own indie record label. The first CD we ever put out was by a gangsta rap group. We also did alt rock and punk. I have trained as a boxer. I could have been a contender. (Not really). I started writing stories for my little sister when I was about 8. Often I would rework fairytales so that the princesses had a little more grit. Then I would write them out on white paper, roll them up and tie with a red ribbon. Later on in high school I penned personalized naughty limericks by request. I love dogs and octopuses.I blog. And I enjoy baking desserts. I am a tattooed person. (You can visit Jo Treggiari on her website or on Twitter)

  1. […] book, which started on Monday with my great book blogging friend Flavia. You can check out her post here! I’m not going to say too much about this book because I’m waiting for my tour […]

  2. It sounds thrilling Flavia! (GAH your photos are so darn gorgeous girl!) I actually don’t like thrillers… I’m such a scardy cat… but actually I was totally captured by the idea of being at the bottom of a cistern when I wake up! Like what?! ❤️

    1. Thank you so much! <3 And haha there's nothing wrong with that! I've run into a few people in the blogging community who don't read thrillers lol. <3

  3. Silence of the Lambs for YA readers??? YASSSS ~ I got this on NetGalley but haven’t picked it up yet but now I’m psyched!! I don’t often read psychological thrillers or books where the person is kidnapped. This seems like a thrilling read

    1. Yeeees I saw that you’re planning to read it this month in a post today 😀 And I don’t read thrillers that often either! Although that’s all that I used to read when I was in high school hahaha
