weekly meme, wishlist wednesdays

Wishlist Wednesday (#4)

giphyIt turns out that I don’t make these Wishlist Wednesday posts too often. I’m not sure why…but maybe because the meme seems kind of inactive? There is no interaction on the host’s site, regarding these weekly posts. Because of this, I sometimes feel as if I’m just talking into an abyss. Another thing might be that these posts can sound a bit repetitive, like “I want this book because…blah blah blah.”

I’ll keep making these posts though, every once in a while so things don’t feel repetitive. And I also like having it as a backup for when I can’t do a WWW Wednesday post, like today. WWW is all about the book/s you’re reading now, recently finished, and reading next, and since this week’s books are the same as last weeks, that post would have been repetitive, 100%.

But anyway, for those unfamiliar with Wishlist Wednesdays, it’s a book blog hop where we will post about one book per week that has been on our wishlist for some time, or just added (it’s entirely up to you), that we can’t wait to get off the wishlist and onto our wonderful shelves. Wishlist Wednesday is also hosted by the lovely Pen to Paper, and this was her most recent Wishlist Wednesday post!!

This week’s book is probably on the shelves of many, and if not, definitely on their wishlists (as it is for me). I have also chosen this book due to the recent release of the awesome movie…Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them!

91x-d2vlhzlHarry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone: Illustrated Edition!

Prepare to be spellbound by Jim Kay’s dazzling depiction of the wizarding world and much loved characters in this full-colour illustrated hardback edition of the nation’s favourite children’s book – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Brimming with rich detail and humour that perfectly complements J.K. Rowling’s timeless classic, Jim Kay’s glorious illustrations will captivate fans and new readers alike.

When a letter arrives for unhappy but ordinary Harry Potter, a decade-old secret is revealed to him that apparently he’s the last to know. His parents were wizards, killed by a Dark Lord’s curse when Harry was just a baby, and which he somehow survived. Leaving his unsympathetic aunt and uncle for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry stumbles upon a sinister mystery when he finds a three-headed dog guarding a room on the third floor. Then he hears of a missing stone with astonishing powers, which could be valuable, dangerous – or both. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

918gza0xlylI flipped through this book the last time I went to Chapters (our largest Canadian book chain), and I fell in love. Sadly, I didn’t have the money to buy it that day as it was not on sale, and I had had to pay some bills. But, it has been on my wish list ever since! I’ve re-read Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone many times, but reading it with these accompanying illustrations would definitely make the experience even better!

I mean, just looks at them! While the characters in the books now certainly look like the cast selected for the films for me, I believe that the way they are imagined and illustrated here, may be a tasteful combination of what the characters looked like in my mind before the films, and what they look like now, after the films have been released.

The art is just fantastic! And I may as well add that I’m definitely wishing for the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, in the illustrated format, as it came out this October! It’s illustrated by the same artist, so it’s bound to contain even more amazing art! Definitely hoping to find one or both of these under the Christmas tree in a month!

Thank you so much for reading! What are you hoping to find under the tree this Christmas? Or if you don’t celebrate Christmas, what are you hoping to unwrap on your birthday, or the next upcoming gift-giving holiday? Let me know in the comments below! Also, I would appreciate any feedback you guys could give me regarding the new purchase link icons I’ve created below!

  1. Since I don’t have access to a great bookstore and none in English, I enjoyed reading about and seeing illustrations of this book. Thanks for sharing. Sometimes blogging does seem like talking into an abyss, but not always.

      1. I live in Pátzcuaro in the state of Michóacan in Mexico. I am a retired teacher and have been in Mexico about 2 1/2 years. For the first year and a half I lived in Ajijic in Jalisco. It is a very nice place with a temperate climate–so nice that it is full of expats from U.S. and Canada. I was learning very little Spanish. So I now live in a place where little English is spoken. The people are very friendly and helpful. Having said that I want to learn Spanish, I should add that it is difficult to learn a new language when you are an adult. I am incredibly blessed to have Netgalley to supply me with books to satisfy my reading addiction!

  2. The illustrated Harry Potter aren’t around in actual bookstores in my country (though I could probably get it online), but the art definitely looks amazing! <3

  3. I had pre-ordered the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Screenplay and I just got it yesterday and its absolutely beautiful! I’ve been wanting the illustrated edition of the philosphers stone for a while now but just haven’t gotten the chance to purchase it

  4. Good pick for a wish list! For Christmas, I am most wishing for The Hobbit first edition facsimile. It’s my favourite book and I am really looking forward to this edition.

  5. Right! You can never have too many copies of The Hobbit 🙂 I’ve been waiting for an edition like this for years, haha.
