Top Ten Tuesday #46: Top Ten Books That Take Place In Another Country

Happy Tuesday, and happy Top Ten Tuesday day, everyone! This week’s theme allows us to travel outside of our own countries, and encourages us to explore the rest of the world! Since most YA books are set in the U.S. (well, the contemporary ones anyway, since fantasy settings didn’t really count for me, for this theme), and since I live in Canada, I decided to eliminate both of those countries from my list. Continue reading if you want to see which ten books I selected this week!

I saw these books as taking place a kind of historical India … but since there is magic, and no city names or locations that match up with the modern world, I couldn’t allow myself to use it in my actual list. I also couldn’t not mention it though, because it did feel like it was set in a past India, before magic sort of disappeared (if that makes sense).
I also just really wanted to include India in this post, haha.

    1. I feel like the majority of mine are set in Europe too hahaha. Really makes me realize that I need to read more contemporary fiction set in like Asia, Africa, and South America! I hope that you get to read those soon, and that you love them! 😀

      1. I hope I can get to them too! I’ve been utilizing my Scribd account so we’ll see if either of them are on there! I’d love to read more in Asia, Africa, and So. America too! I feel like there just isn’t enough out there, or I’ve not found them yet.

  3. Ha, I love that we both have Shadowsong on our lists! I’m also intending to read Now I Rise and Hunting Prince Dracula this year, so that’s exciting! I’m really looking forward to those. 🙂 This is a great list. I’ll have to look into the others I haven’t heard of. They look good.

  5. You killed it with variety. You have a great cross-section of the world featured with those books. I had accidentally done this post a month ago, and didn’t want to repeat, but I had Warcross on my first list.

    1. Gahhh thank you so much! I’m glad that I read a variety of books, but I always think that I could read even MORE diverse books. Also, I’m glad that we both picked Warcross! I’ll have to check your list out 🙂

  9. Obviously you have great taste for including Gentleman’s Guide. I still have to read Warcross and I’m so curious about Hunting Prince Dracula but I haven’t read the first book yet! Also, The Star-Touched Queen wasn’t my thing but that’s purely personal. The writing and characters just didn’t connect with me.

  15. I think I read about “S.T.A.G.S.” a while back, but now don’t seem to remember what it’s about. Makes me realize I need to look this one up – who knows it might be a new favorite story! 😉 Loved “Warcross,” and am reminded, I *still* need to write a review for that one.
