Summary: Award-winning author and illustrator Ashley Spires has created a charming picture book about an unnamed girl and her very best friend, who happens to be a dog. The girl has a wonderful idea. ?She is going to make the most MAGNIFICENT thing! She knows just how it will look. She knows just how it will work. All she has to do is make it, and she makes things all the time. Easy-peasy!? But making her magnificent thing is anything but easy, and the girl tries and fails, repeatedly. Eventually, the girl gets really, really mad. She is so mad, in fact, that she quits. But after her dog convinces her to take a walk, she comes back to her project with renewed enthusiasm and manages to get it just right.

This book was fantastic!

I believe that it would be very educational for kids. It teaches that you should not give up your dream, even if you fail time after time. It teaches that you should keep trying until you succeed.

There is also a lesson in this book about taking a step back from a project, and altering your perspective in order to realize what may not be working, or what may not be missing.

In addition, The Most Magnificent Thing also teaches that anger and tantrums don’t help anyone-which I think is an important lesson for the kids growing up in today’s society.

The illustrations were very enjoyable, and the colours pleasing to the eye. The drawings were simple and clean, and there were no pages which were in any way disorienting or confusing due to too much visual stimulus.

Ashley Spires’ writing is clear and engaging. She does not use any words which may be too complex for children to understand, and the words-per-page ratio is perfect for the age group for which this book is intended.

I would definitely buy this book for my children, and I will highly recommend it to others!
