The women of the Star Wars universe are a diverse galaxy of heroes and villains, renegades and rogues, caretakers and, sometimes, unscrupulous scum.

Now StarWars.com is thrilled to exclusively announce a new book from Chronicle Books that celebrates this eclectic mix of female characters from the films, cartoons, novels, comics, and video games — Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy by Star Wars fan and journalist Amy Ratcliffe, arriving October 2018 in hardcover.

Featuring Leia Organa, Rey, Ahsoka Tano, Jyn Erso, Rose Tico, Maz Kanata, and many more — including characters from Solo: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars Resistance — the book gathers 75 profiles with text by Ratcliffe and all-new, incredible artwork from 18 talented female and non-binary artists. The amazing lineup of illustrators includes Alice X. Zhang, Amy Beth Christenson, Annie Stoll, Annie Wu, Christina Chung, Cryssy Cheung, Eli Baum, Elsa Charretier, Geneva B., Jen Aberin Johnson, Jen Bartel, Jenny Parks, Karen Hallion, Little Corvus, Sara Alfageeh, Sara Kipin, Sarah Wilkinson, and Viviane Tanner. Check out Jen Bartel’s cover below, featuring a striking image of Rey.

This a must-have book for Star Wars fan of any level! And if you’re a feminist, that’s even better, because the book was written by a woman, and all of the interior illustrations were made by female and non-binary artists! Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy is incredible, and is also beautiful inside and out. I’m a big fan of Rey, and absolutely love the art of her on the cover. I’m also a big fan of the colours and style of the cover illustration, as well as the illustrations made by various artists inside the book!

As the synopsis says, Leia Organa, Rey, Ahsoka Tano, Jyn Erso, Rose Tico, and Maz Kanata are featured in this book, along with many many more female characters from the Star Wars universe that I’d only ever seen images of, or not even heard of before. It’s really great to have a collection like this (especially in hardcover), and it was a lot of fun to read about all of these minor and major female characters from the universe. (Just beware of spoilers if you’re reading about a characters that’s from a movie, show, or book that you haven’t seen or read yet). Again, a must-must have for Star Wars fans!

Amy Ratcliffe is a writer and geek. She contributes to various outlets including Nerdist, IGN, and Star Wars Insider. She is obsessed with Star Wars (especially The Clone Wars) and goes to Disney theme parks as often as possible. If you cut her, she bleeds coffee.
