My family, my boyfriend (who should really just be considered as part of my family), and myself were all very excited for the new Star Wars movie, ever since we went together to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens in theatres. We were both excited and a little let down to find out that we wouldn’t get the 8th movie right away, but that we would get Rogue One: A Star Wars Story first. But once we saw that one, we were quite happy as well. Despite really enjoying Rogue One, though, I don’t think that I’d be very likely to re-watch it, although … more likely to re-watch it than movies 1-3. Anyway! Sorry. Back to The Last Jedi.
The wait was long, although not as long as the wait between movies 4-6 and 1-3, and then the wait between movies 1-3 and movie 7. We progressively became more and more pumped for The Last Jedi, as we first got the teaser, and trailers which were longer, and made the film look like it would be amazing. When the day came (we got VIP tickets for the film for December 17th), it didn’t feel real!
Even though some of the characters, especially Rey, Finn, and Kylo had only been in one film before this one, I felt as if I knew them very well, and I was quite happy to see them again. Well, maybe Kylo not so much. I guess that I should commend Kylo for being a good villain, since I do really dislike him. Despite this, it was interesting to learn more about him in The Last Jedi. I was happy to learn more about some of the other characters well, and was very happy to meet Rose! She was especially brave, funny, and lovable. I also, of course, love Rey and Finn, and was happy to see their character develop in this film. (I also don’t know who I ship with who anymore. Uh oh!)
As you may have noticed, I used the Japanese version of the movie poster at the beginning of this post, because I was annoyed that the North American version made it seem as if Luke Skywalker was the main. Don’t get me wrong, I love Luke in movies 4-6 (I grew up with those movies), but I didn’t think he was that great in The Last Jedi, and he also got a lot of spotlight in movies 4-6. I felt like Rey deserved to be the most prominent character in the poster (from the choices that I was given). If it had been up to me, it would have been Rose, Finn, and Rey near the top, and featured in similar sizes. But … I’m not in charge.
The plot was good, though I wouldn’t say excellent. But that didn’t really come as a surprise for me when I realized that this is a middle film, meaning that it’s in the middle for a trilogy (or whatever this series of films will end up being). Nothing too epic can happen, since that’s being saved for the last film, and it’s also setting things up for the last film. That being said, I was very happy to get another Star Wars movie, the effects and visuals were great, and I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish! I definitely also cried … but while there were some heart-wrenching bits, there were also comical aspects to balance things out, my favourite of which was the Porgs!
Overall, I liked this movie quite a bit, and would probably go see it again in theatres if I had not spent so much money on Christmas! Haha. I definitely recommend this film to Star Wars fans, and would recommend it to those new to the series as well, except that I would tell them to watch the films in chronological order (story-wise, not release-wise), starting with Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, and ending with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, so as to avoid spoilers!

I saw it last week and really enjoyed it! Some parts dragged a little I felt but overall it was a solid second film to this trilogy.

I was nervous reading this because I was really hoping you liked it, so I am sooooooo glad you did. I have seen alot of people saying that they didn’t like it for various reasons, and while it did have some problems I mostly thought it was an awesome set up for the final movie. I love Kylo Ren, in terms of him being a villain. I think Adam Driver is an amazing actor and has done such a good job with Kylo. This is an awesome review, I can’t wait to watch this movie another thousand times 🙂
Aweeee I understand that feeling! I get that too when I really liked a book or movie, and am hoping that others liked them too, but have only come across negative opinions haha.
