Musing Monday (#13)

monday (1).jpg

Hello and Happy New Year! I am sad that I had to miss last week’s Musing Monday post due to taking a long road trip to Northern Ontario to visit my in-laws for Christmas! I should have pre-written and scheduled a post, but I’m not usually on the ball, or organized enough, to schedule posts haha. I was also very very busy the week before due to the Holidays and all which that entailed! Today was also a busy day, but I decided to write a Musing Monday post for you all, even though Monday will be over in less than 2 hours here, ah!

ezgif-1545491241For those of you who don’t know, Musing Mondays is hosted by the awesome Ambrosia every Monday. This is a book blog meme where participants have to answer one of the pre-set prompts of (I’m currently reading…; Up next I think I’ll read…; I bought the following book(s) in the past week…; I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…; I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…; I can’t wait to get a copy of…; I wish I could read ___, but…; OR I blogged about ____ this past week…). And you also have to answer an additional random question which is different every week!

This week I’ll be answering one of the weekly prompts, before answering the random question for this week…

I’M CURRENTLY READING:

31549513The Alchemists of Loom by Elise Kova, and I am so excited to finally be reading it too! I’ve been following Kova’s works for over a year now, but was never able to actually sit down with any of her books before. When I requested an ARC of this book, I had no idea what to expect, but was incredibly happy when I was informed that I had been accepted to read and review this book, and that they would send me a physical copy!

Now I am reading it, and it is everything I’d ever hoped for. An incredibly-constructed world, distinct and multi-faceted characters, as well as action and adventure. Also, not only is it fantasy, but there is steampunk as well! Ahhh!

For those of you who have not yet heard of, or in any other way encountered this book, here is the synopsis:

Her vengeance. His vision.

Ari lost everything she once loved when the Five Guilds’ resistance fell to the Dragon King. Now, she uses her unparalleled gift for clockwork machinery in tandem with notoriously unscrupulous morals to contribute to a thriving underground organ market. There isn’t a place on Loom that is secure from the engineer turned thief, and her magical talents are sold to the highest bidder as long as the job defies their Dragon oppressors.

Cvareh would do anything to see his sister usurp the Dragon King and sit on the throne. His family’s house has endured the shame of being the lowest rung in the Dragons’ society for far too long. The Alchemist Guild, down on Loom, may just hold the key to putting his kin in power, if Cvareh can get to them before the Dragon King’s assassins.

When Ari stumbles upon a wounded Cvareh, she sees an opportunity to slaughter an enemy and make a profit off his corpse. But the Dragon sees an opportunity to navigate Loom with the best person to get him where he wants to go.

He offers her the one thing Ari can’t refuse: A wish of her greatest desire, if she brings him to the Alchemists of Loom.

I am very very pleased with this book so far, and greatly look forward to what else it may hold in store fore me!

And now I will be answering this week’s random question:

Have you joined any challenges in reading for the new year? Do you have any general goals book or even not book related for 2017?

ezgif-com-b8dc46d611I actually joined THREE challanges today, and it was all before I saw this question. I actually thought I might not have time to write this week’s Musing Monday post, so I didn’t look at the random question until about 10 pm my time, haha. So, the challenges which I joined are the Goodreads 2017 Reading Challenge (of course), the Flights of Fantasy 2017 Reading Challenge hosted by Rachel and Alexa, anddd the 2017 Popsugar Reading Challenge!

As I have never participated in any reading challenges other than Goodreads, I am very excited to be joining Flights of Fantasy as well as the Popsugar challenge! And I suppose…we will have to see how I do. I start working full-time tomorrow, so I should figure out how much reading time I will have available within a few weeks or so.

THANK YOU FOR READING MY POST! HAVE YOU JOINED ANY READING CHALLENGES FOR 2017? (POSSIBLY ANY OF THE ONES WHICH I’VE JOINED?) AND HAVE YOU PARTICIPATED IN ANY READING CHALLENGES BEFORE? HOW DID IT GO? LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS BELOW!

  1. I have joined 4 challenges for 2017:
    – Mount TBR to help knock some books off my to be read list
    – Library Love to help save money and stop buying so many books
    – Wild Goose Chase, and the What’s In a Name challenge which are both about reading books that sit within a particular category

I like doing challenges, I find they give me a goal to aim towards and make things a bit more interesting. 🙂 Good luck with your challenges this year! xx

    1. Oh cool! I’m at 4 now too, because I joined Beat the Backlist. It’s like Mount TBR haha, in that you’re meant to read books from your TBR for it.

Library Love sounds neat! I may have to check it out, and the other 2 sound cool too!

Thanks so much for reading my post and sharing the reading challenges which you are participating in! I loved reading about them! 😀

    1. Thanks so much! I started the job today and it went very well! Now we just have to see about these challenges 😛 hahaha

And the Popsugar one DOES sound fun, doesn’t it?!

Thanks so much for reading and comment! 😀

    1. Woaa! 4 challenges seems to be the lucky number! Those all sound really cool! I hope you have fun with them 😀

And oh my goodnress that’s amazing! I’ve read maybe 50 pages… MAYBE!

    1. Awee well I’m glad you’re doing that one! I’m not sure if I’ll be doing any challenges other than Goodreads next year, haha. I guess it’ll depend a lot on how I do with the challenges I’ve signed up for this year.

Thanks so much for reading and commenting! 😀

  2. I have joined the Goodreads 2017 challenge. I’ve joined this challenge for a few years now and always like watching the book collection grow through the year.

    1. Yesss the Goodreads challenge is great. I strangely didn’t participate before last year, which makes me sad. But I will participate every year from now on 🙂

Watching the book collection grow throughout the year is definitely a great feeling!
