Interior Design Inspiration For Your Book Display
Do you ever get tired of your regular bookshelf setup? As your collection of novels expands, you may be in search of more creative ways to decorate with your books. After all, the books we own are such important parts of our living spaces. They tell a story about ourselves and make for lovely display pieces. So, if you’re in search of new ways to spice up your book decor, look no further. We’ve compiled a list of ideas, plus four fun mood boards by 1stDibs with home library inspiration from interior designers.
1. Choose the Right Bookshelf
The perfect bookshelf will set the tone for your book display and give your stories a gorgeous place to live. To choose a bookshelf, evaluate your existing decor style. If you have a minimalist setup, consider floating shelves or a ladder shelf for a clean and sleek look. If your furniture is more traditional, an antique bookshelf with ornate details and dark wood will fit right in.
2. Pick A New Arrangement
Instead of simply lining all your books up in a row, intersperse some plants, artwork, or sculptures to make your shelf arrangement more exciting. Alternate between stacking books horizontally and lining them up vertically for some pleasing variation. Then, choose several of your favorite books and display them with the covers facing outward. You’ll be surprised just how fresh your shelves will look after these small changes!
3. Don’t Forget the Nightstands and Coffee Tables
Bookshelves aren’t the only spots where you can decorate with books—any surface is fair game! Take several books off the shelves and try placing them on your end tables, kitchen counter, or nightstands. You can even group several books of similar colors and stack them on a table to create a pedestal for a lamp. For coffee table displays, choose large books that lend themselves to quick perusing.
4. Freshen Up Antique Books
If you have old books that you aren’t quite sure what to do with, don’t count them out of your new display. The best way to decorate with old and vintage books is to pair them with traditional, rustic, or nostalgic objects. Create a historical vignette by grouping your old books with items that look like they’d belong in an old study, like a globe, black-and-white photos, and a magnifying glass.
Hopefully these tips will have sparked some inspiration while rearranging your book collection. Remember to have fun while decorating and create the book display that best showcases your personality and interests.
