Aspiring filmmaker and wallflower Twinkle Mehra has stories she wants to tell and universes she wants to explore, if only the world would listen. So when fellow film geek Sahil Roy approaches her to direct a movie for the upcoming Summer Festival, Twinkle is all over it. The chance to publicly showcase her voice as a director? Dream come true. The fact that it gets her closer to her longtime crush, Neil Roy—a.k.a. Sahil’s twin brother? Dream come true x 2.

When mystery man “N” begins emailing her, Twinkle is sure it’s Neil, finally ready to begin their happily-ever-after. The only slightly inconvenient problem is that, in the course of movie-making, she’s fallen madly in love with the irresistibly adorkable Sahil.

Twinkle soon realizes that resistance is futile: The romance she’s got is not the one she’s scripted. But will it be enough?

Told through the letters Twinkle writes to her favorite female filmmakers, From Twinkle, with Love navigates big truths about friendship, family, and the unexpected places love can find you.

Reading From Twinkle, With Love was bittersweet for me. I liked Twinkle Mehra, our main character and narrator, from the start and I bonded with her through the high school experiences that she had (which were so similar to my own). While reading this book, I would occasionally stop and make sure that this wasn’t the section of my own autobiography about the time that I spent in high school, because there were so many similarities! While I did not agree with some of Twinkle’s choices, I most certainly understood them, and know that I would have likely made the same decisions when I was in high school. For many of us, navigating the high school social scene, while also trying to get the best grades, is/was not an easy feat, and this book definitely represented all of that quite realistically.

Another realistic aspect of this book was the character interaction (whether it was face-to-face, through text messages, phone conversations, or e-mail exchanges). Throughout quite a bit of the book, I saw events unfolding in my mind as they would in a movie (which I think is a good sign); I could picture the settings and characters quite clearly, and a lot of them became quite dear to me! There was also character growth in From Twinkle, With Love, which is always something that I like to see. Also, have I mentioned how much I love Sahil? I won’t lie … I definitely had a bit of a crush on him too (sorry, Twinkle! Haha), and it definitely makes me wish that I’d had a high school romance like that too. From Twinkle, With Love was 6 parts cute, 2 parts steamy, and 2 parts sad, and I devoured it in just 2 sittings (which is pretty quick for me)! I definitely recommend this one to readers who enjoy contemporary, Rom-Com-like, YA books!

    1. Haha you must have been focused on the other stuff! I liked the letter format but wouldn’t say that I prefer it to the format she used for When Dimple Met Rishi haha. I definitely has fun reading Twinkle though 🙂 <3

  1. I loved this book! I adored both Twinkle and Sahil and I really liked how it was written with blog posts, letters, and texts. I actually really liked the format of Twinkle writing in a journal. I’ve loved both of Menon’s books – I can’t wait to see what’s next!

    1. Ahhh I’m so glad that you loved it! I’m not sure if I’m the biggest fan of how it was written, but I did get really attached to Sahil and Twinkle 🙂 And I’m glad that we’re both super excited for Menon’s next book!

  2. Sounds like a fun read! Sandhya’s books have been on my TBR list for what seems far too long. Perhaps this summer I’ll read this one and ‘Dimple.’ Plus, the covers for these books are TOO cute!
