Feature & Follow Friday (#9)

feature-and-follow.png

It’s Feature & Follow Friday time and this week’s prompt…prompted and intetesting discovery for me!

This weekly meme is hosted by Alison Can Read and Parajunkee.com, and you can find all of the details in her most recent Feature & Follow post! But basically, people post in responses to a prompt every week, and then people vote on each others’ posts until the following Friday. The person with the most votes, is chosen as the next week’s feature!

And this week’s prompt is:

ezgif-com-2ce202d15fWhat protagonist is most like you?

This is turning out to be one of the tougher questions for me, because I have never actually thought of this before. There are characters which I like, those I’m okay with, some which annoy me, and then others which I absolutely loathe. But I’ve never had a moment where I would pause in my reading and actually go, “Huh. This character is so much like me.” So, I was going to skip this week’s Feature and Follow Friday post, except that…after taking time to consider the question, I had become curious.

I searched for character quizzes which would be the most fitting considering the books I read, and the characters which I most encounter, and I came upon this one. I’m not exactly sure how many outcomes there actually are, and I’m not sure if I read any of the books from which these characters were taken for that reason, but in either case, my result was…

*drumroll*

My result was Mia Hall from Gayle Forman’s book, If I Stay.

6990472I have never seen the movie (nor did I know one existed until I took this quiz), but I had seen the book around. I think that I’d read the description every time I came across it, but found that it was never quite enough for me to actually want to pick this book up and read it. The movie trailer, on the other hand, made me want to read the book and then see the movie afterward as well!

Here is the Goodreads description for those of you (who like me) had not heard about this book before until today:

Just listen, Adam says with a voice that sounds like shrapnel.

I open my eyes wide now.
I sit up as much as I can.
And I listen.

Stay, he says.

Choices. Seventeen-year-old Mia is faced with some tough ones: Stay true to her first love—music—even if it means losing her boyfriend and leaving her family and friends behind?

Then one February morning Mia goes for a drive with her family, and in an instant, everything changes. Suddenly, all the choices are gone, except one. And it’s the only one that matters.

If I Stay is a heartachingly beautiful book about the power of love, the true meaning of family, and the choices we all make.

While I normally don’t read books which sound as heartbreaking as this one, sometimes I do feel in the mood for a book which will tear my heart open and then sew it back up. Sometimes I’m in the mood for a good cry, as long as there is even the smallest promise that it’ll all be okay in the end.

But anyway, back to Mia and my quiz results. Based upon the honest answers which I gave, the quiz results with which I was provided are:

You are quiet and overlooked but you don’t care to be seen. You are indecisive, but you always follow your heart. Sometimes you feel like you don’t belong. You are sensitive with your feelings, but you don’t like to show it.

Most of all, you are gifted in many ways, don’t be afraid to hide them.

And most of that sounds pretty accurate. So, good job quiz! It certainly did a better job at finding a protagonist who is like me, than I did. That being said, I have not actually read the book and am depending on this quiz entirely regarding this opinion. Once I read it, I may find that I am not like Mia at all! I may even hate her. Who knows?

We do share some similarities on the surface however; similarities which I’ve gathered through the quiz results, as well as the book description and the movie trailer.

  1. I tend to be fairly quiet when I am not around my friends, or if I’m being moody.
  2. A lot of the time I really do not care to be seen.
  3. I’m not always indecisive, but sometimes
  4. I always follow my heart.
  5. I sometimes feel like I don’t belong.
  6. Anyone who knows me personally will tell you that I am sensitive, but that I will not let this show with those I’m not close to.
  7. I’m not sure about whether I’m “gifted in many ways,” but I do have a few talents (haha)
  8. I have already found the love of my life and am madly in love with him.
  9. I have been in a position where I’ve had to choose between a passion of mine and my loved ones.
  10. I am very close to my family and do not know what I would do if anything were to happen to them…

  1. Mia, that’s a good one…. I’ve read both books and watched the movie, and I have to say I enjoyed them both! The writing was fantastic in my opinion, so even though it’s dramatic you should check them out!

    1. Oh that’s awesome! I’ll definitely have to check out the books and the movie when I have time 🙂 Also, yes I’ve heard that Forman’s writing is really good, so I’m excited!

Thanks so much for your comment! 😀

    1. Awe that’s a good combination! And hehe, I figured it was the only way for me to find out who I’m like, since I really hadn’t thought about that before 😛

And I’ll check out your blog right now! Thanks so much for reading and commenting! 😀

  2. I never thought about what character I’m most like either!! As a teen, I was definitely a lot like Ari from Aristotle and Dante Discover The Secrets Of The Universe. But now? I”m not sure, I’ll have to think about it!
I appreciated this post. I feel like I know you a little better. 🙂

    1. I still really need to read that book! And I’m curious as to who you’re like now 🙂
