Here are the books (on my radar) that are celebrating their Book Birthdays today (a.k.a. books that are being published in Canada today)! Happiest of Book Birthdays to all of these lovely new releases! Which ones are you most excited for?
Title: Bloodwitch
Author: Susan Dennard
Type: Fiction
Genre: YA, Fantasy
Publisher: Tor Teen (Macmillan)
Note: This book is part of a series, and there are likely some spoilers in the synopsis below.
Fans of Susan Dennard’s New York Times bestselling Witchlands series have fallen in love with the Bloodwitch Aeduan. And now, finally, comes his story.
High in a snowy mountain range, a monastery that holds more than just faith clings to the side of a cliff. Below, thwarted by a lake, a bloodthirsty horde of raiders await the coming of winter and the frozen path to destroy the sanctuary and its secrets.
The Bloodwitch Aeduan has teamed up with the Threadwitch Iseult and the magical girl Owl to stop the destruction. But to do so, he must confront his own father, and his past.
Title: Bloom
Author: Kevin Panetta
Illustrator: Savanna Ganucheau
Type: Fiction, Graphic Novel
Genre: YA, LGBT
Publisher: First Second (Macmillan)
Now that high school is over, Ari is dying to move to the big city with his ultra-hip band―if he can just persuade his dad to let him quit his job at their struggling family bakery. Though he loved working there as a kid, Ari cannot fathom a life wasting away over rising dough and hot ovens. But while interviewing candidates for his replacement, Ari meets Hector, an easygoing guy who loves baking as much as Ari wants to escape it. As they become closer over batches of bread, love is ready to bloom . . . that is, if Ari doesn’t ruin everything.
Writer Kevin Panetta and artist Savanna Ganucheau concoct a delicious recipe of intricately illustrated baking scenes and blushing young love, in which the choices we make can have terrible consequences, but the people who love us can help us grow.
I saw BLOOM on the shelf yesterday and I got a serious case of the heart eyes! I love that more LGBTQ graphic novels are coming out now! It’s so nice to literally see queer love <3
Yeeeees! Bingo Love was a really good one too 🙂
Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto came out today as well, and I’m super excited about it. Oh, and Bloodwitch is obviously something I’m happy about.
