Backlist Blast #26: Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire

Happy Friday Junior, and Backlist Blast day, everyone! Today I am sharing the first book in a series that I have been meaning to pick up for the longest time: the Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire! The reason why I decided to feature this book today is because the fourth book in the series, In an Absent Dream, actually released two days ago! I am more than halfway through Seanan’s October Daye series, and I absolutely love her writing and how she weaves her stories! So, I absolutely have to pick this series up at some point, and I have a feeling that I will love it because … how could I not?

Backlist Blast is a meme created by Milana from A Couple Reads and myself, and is meant to encourage book bloggers to feature and talk about backlist books (meaning books that were published 6 months ago, or earlier). We all get excited about all of the newest books coming out, but many of us also have a looming TBR of books published 6 months ago or earlier that we still need to read!

The main purpose of this meme is to talk about those books, and remember why we wanted to read them in the first place. Another purpose is for readers to find out about awesome backlist books that they might have never heard of before! For more information on the meme, and for optional themes, please see the info page here.

Eleanor West’s Home for Wayward Children

No Solicitations
No Visitors
No Quests

Children have always disappeared under the right conditions; slipping through the shadows under a bed or at the back of a wardrobe, tumbling down rabbit holes and into old wells, and emerging somewhere… else.

But magical lands have little need for used-up miracle children.

Nancy tumbled once, but now she’s back. The things she’s experienced… they change a person. The children under Miss West’s care understand all too well. And each of them is seeking a way back to their own fantasy world.

But Nancy’s arrival marks a change at the Home. There’s a darkness just around each corner, and when tragedy strikes, it’s up to Nancy and her new-found schoolmates to get to the heart of the matter.

No matter the cost.

Seanan McGuire is a native Californian, which has resulted in her being exceedingly laid-back about venomous wildlife, and terrified of weather. When not writing urban fantasy (as herself) and science fiction thrillers (as Mira Grant), she likes to watch way too many horror movies, wander around in swamps, record albums of original music, and harass her cats. Seanan is the author of the October Daye, InCryptid, and Indexing series of urban fantasies; the Newsflesh trilogy; the Parasitology duology; and the “Velveteen vs.” superhero shorts. Her cats, Lilly, Alice, and Thomas, are plotting world domination even as we speak, but are easily distracted by feathers on sticks, so mankind is probably safe. For now. Seanan’s favorite things include the X-Men, folklore, and the Black Death. No, seriously. She writes all biographies in the third person, because it’s easier that way.

  1. I recently unhauled a bunch of books, the majority of them are eBooks so my backlist TBR is slowly starting to decrease. I’m being more conscious of what I want to read because I want to read it and not because everyone else is reading it.

    1. That’s awesome! I need to go back to participating in the meme Down the TBR Hole because it helped me sort through my TBR and really made me think about what to keep and what not. Plus, my tastes changed since I added a lot of those books to the list so…thanks for reminding me of that! 🙂
