Where do I even begin?! I knew that this movie would be good, but I didn’t know it’d be this good! It was pure perfection in my opinion, and I cannot wait to watch it again. I suppose I’ll start on the cinematography. The manner in which they filmed this movie really works with the musical aspects of it. What do I mean? Well, some of the shots just flow perfectly along to the music (such as some pan shots that follow a moving vehicle, or the use of a dolly to follow a character down the street, zooming in and out depending on what obstacles are in the way). Not once did this movie lose it’s spell on me! The colours also really popped and were vibrant throughout. All of this combined, made one yummy feast for my eyes!

The casting was excellent. I can’t imagine any of the characters being played by anyone else. There was such a variety of character types too, as well as a variety of relationships (all of which were a joy to watch play out). In Baby Driver you will see characters click, and others clash, and it was all completely natural. There was an almost tangible passion between the characters which were closer to each other (such as the romantic pairings). The couples were lots of fun to watch, and we got good doses of innocent love, as well as sexual love!

The story was great, and kept me on the edge of my seat. There were also some twists and turns which I did not see coming, which made me super happy. The plot progressed at an even pace, and there was just the right dose of action, and lull for someone like me who enjoys an even mix of both. And Baby’s driving skills? Let me tell you, if it was legal to drive like that here, I’d be going for lessons right now! I already know how to drive standard, so why not? Hehe. There was also a good dose of comedy, and I definitely laughed a lot more than I expected to (as did the rest of the audience). Some parts also got a little darker than I’d predicted from the trailer. But I wouldn’t have been as surprised if I’d known that this movie was rated R before I went to watch it. I’m so unaware sometimes…

And finally the music. Whoever was behind the music-selection…I want to worship. The soundtrack is so great that I’ve been listening to it ever since I woke up this morning! I don’t even know how to explain it. The music was so well-integrated into the plot, the action, the visuals. It was everywhere, and it was perfect. The song selection itself is kind bits of pieces from different eras, that I would have never thought to mash together, but that just work so well for me now! To those of you who have read my ravings about the music in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2…well, the Baby Driver soundtrack is up on that same ledge with it. They are equally good to me!

There are so many other good GIFs that I wish I’d had room for, but alas. I highly recommend this movie to those who enjoy films just for the aesthetics, those who like action, crime, fast cars, a bit of romance, a hint of blood, and a ton of good music!

  1. I have been reading up on this film and heard that the music was chosen purely to fit in with the cinematography. It was edited like that purposely to appeal to people. But some people also really dislike it because it took them out of the movie and made them feel less immersed. I really need to go and watch this! I want to see what all the fuss is about!

    1. Ohhh I didn’t know that. That’s pretty interesting. Also hmm, I’m usually bothered by being taken out of the movie by things…but the music definitely didn’t hinder me getting immersed. Maybe they just didn’t like that style of film to begin with?

I hope that you get to watch it soon!

  2. Really great review! I loved the music in this movie, but unfortunately nothing else made me fall in love 🙁 It came down to how all the female characters were treated, and I hated how the writers wrote them. I actually wrote a whole blog post about it so I could rant, lol 😉

Glad you loved this film so much, though!

    1. Thank you so much! And ahhh I’ll have to check out your review! I didn’t really notice how female characters were treated, but now I want to re-watch it while paying attention! Thanks so much for commenting!
