#ARCstravaganza (#4): The Authentics by Abdi Nazemian

Hello everyone! And Happy Monday! (Or I hope it’s a happy Monday. I know that some people really hate Mondays). But maybe it’ll be better if you participate in #ARCstravaganza like me! I know that over the past month it’s helped me feel happier about Mondays, and has also made me look forward to them! I know! Weird.

I also have a bit of news for you (in the case that you have no read my previous #ARCstravaganza post). While this meme was created by Krysti at YA and Wine, and hosted by her, and Sarah at The Clever Reader, due to personal circumstances they have had to let it go. For part of last Monday some of us were saying our goodbyes to #ARCstravaganza, and I for one was quite sad to no longer be able to participate in such a fun meme. But then Krysti came to its rescue when she asked me if I wanted to take over the meme! And here we are.

For those of you unfamiliar with #ARCstravaganza, it’s a meme meant to encourage book bloggers to show off and discuss their ARCs (advanced reader copies)! If this sounds like something for you, please check out the info page about the meme here.

I sadly will be unable to host a giveaway for participants every month (since I simply don’t have the means), but what I can do is provide the opportunity for extra points in the Rafflecopter giveaways which I host together with publishers! I will update you guys if I end up being able to host giveaways to go with this meme in the future! Another change is that #ARCstravaganza participants can share their posts on their blogs, Instagram, or Twitter (or all three)! Please just be sure to tag your social media posts with the hashtag, or share a link to your blog post on my blog post for each week.

I don’t read a lot of contemporary, and my reading schedule was already quite full when I had this book pitched to me. But the promise that I would learn about a culture which I have not had much exposure to, convinced me to request a copy and just fit it into my schedule somehow. The synopsis for The Authentics really intrigues me because there is a mystery regarding something which the main character (Daria) finds out and has to face, and of course because of what I hope to learn about Iranian culture! I am also myself an immigrant, and wonder if I will see bits of myself and my family in Daria’s story as has been the case for me with When Dimple Met Rishi and I Believe in a Thing Called Love!

Synopsis: The Authentics is a fresh, funny, and insightful novel about culture, love, and family—the kind we are born into and the ones we create.

Daria Esfandyar is Iranian-American and proud of her heritage, unlike some of the “Nose Jobs” in the clique led by her former best friend, Heidi Javadi. Daria and her friends call themselves the Authentics, because they pride themselves on always keeping it real.

But in the course of researching a school project, Daria learns something shocking about her past, which launches her on a journey of self-discovery. It seems everyone is keeping secrets. And it’s getting harder to know who she even is any longer.

With infighting among the Authentics, her mother planning an over-the-top sweet sixteen party, and a romance that should be totally off limits, Daria doesn’t have time for this identity crisis. As everything in her life is spinning out of control—can she figure out how to stay true to herself?

    1. I tried really hard to resist requesting a copy too, but failed…miserably. Hahaha. I don’t think I’ll regret it though, since the description and everything are quite promising. I hope that you’ll get to read it soon too! 😀

  2. What a GORGEOUS book!!! I’m so excited that you took this on. I love your new graphic, and this book was perfect to feature! Thanks so much for the shout out! Totally don’t feel like you have to do that if you don’t want to though. This is totally your baby now. 🙂
