#ARCstravaganza (#36): The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. Pan

Happy Monday everyone! And also happy #ARCstravaganza day! This week’s choice is one that many of us have been anticipating for quite some time! It came out last week on March 20th, if you haven’t yet gotten your copy! Oh, also, I wanted to let you all know that I have opted for adding a link-up at the bottom of each #ARCstravaganza post that I make, starting last week, where you can post links to your #ARCstravaganza blog, Insta, and Twitter posts for the week! I will provide an example Instagram post in the form as a guide.

For those of you coming across this meme for this first time, it was originally created by Krysti at YA and Wine, and hosted by her, and Sarah at The Clever Reader. Due to personal circumstances, however, they have had to let it go. We were all very sad to see the meme go, but then Krysti asked me if I wanted to take it over, and I said yes!

For those of you unfamiliar with #ARCstravaganza, it’s a meme meant to encourage book bloggers to show off and discuss their ARCs (advanced reader copies)! If this sounds like something for you, please check out the info page about the meme here. Another change is that #ARCstravaganza participants can share their posts on their blogs, Instagram, or Twitter (or all three)! Please just be sure to tag your social media posts with the hashtag, or share a link to your blog post on my blog post for each week, so that we can find it!

Leigh Chen Sanders is absolutely certain about one thing: When her mother died by suicide, she turned into a bird.

Leigh, who is half Asian and half white, travels to Taiwan to meet her maternal grandparents for the first time. There, she is determined to find her mother, the bird. In her search, she winds up chasing after ghosts, uncovering family secrets, and forging a new relationship with her grandparents. And as she grieves, she must try to reconcile the fact that on the same day she kissed her best friend and longtime secret crush, Axel, her mother was taking her own life.

Alternating between real and magic, past and present, friendship and romance, hope and despair, The Astonishing Color of After is a novel about finding oneself through family history, art, grief, and love.

– Link-up –

Welcome to the new link-up feature! Please link up your #ARCstravaganza post specific to this week, rather than your blog or social media account in general. THANKS SO MUCH FOR READING MY #ARCSTRAVAGANZA POST! WHICH OF YOUR ARCS (DIGITAL OR PHYSICAL) ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT? WHY? LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS BELOW!

  1. Great pick Flavia! I’m really looking forward to this one & chose it as my March Book of the Month pick *eeeeK* this has to also be on of the prettiest covers I’ve seen in a bit, love the photo *heart eyes* 🙂

    1. Yeahhhh I saw it on your Insta! And it IS so pretty! I can’t get over it. I know it’s gonna make me bawl my eyes out though gahhhh. Thank you so much! <3

        1. Oh for sure! I’m sad that I can only read it in little chunks because the subjects are difficult for me to read about 🙁 But, the writing is phenomenal!

    1. Ahhhh that’s so good to hear! I’ll be sure to read your review after I write my own 🙂 I always avoid reading other people’s reviews, in order to avoid my review being influenced in any way hehe. And awe I’m glad that you enjoy the meme! I didn’t create this one, but I did adopt it after the creators weren’t able to host it anymore 😉 <3

        1. It’s going to be a tough read and a tough review to write, I’m telling you now 😛 I absolutely LOVE the writing, but I wish that I’d been able to start reading it sooner because I can only read small bits at a time because of the subject matter D:

  2. I didn’t know you had a link up this time! Neat, I will start to do that then… And I sooooooooooooooooooooooooo badly wanted this ARC but couldn’t get one though I tried every available way. hahahaha so I’ll settle back and wait for the library to get it (its only a year *cries*) <3

    1. Yeah I thought it’d be a good idea, since it seems to work very well for Top Ten Tuesday, in that it helps participants find other TTT posts to look at and comment on 🙂 And awee I’m so sorry that you weren’t able to get an ARC 🙁 And your library will only get the book in a year?! What?!
