WWW Wednesday (#4)

img_1384-0

Glad to have finished some books so that I can talk about some different ones this week for WWW Wednesday! For those of you who don’t know what WWW Wednesday is, I will post a quote from the post written by the hostess (at Taking on the World of Words), because I think that she explains it better than I could:

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived here on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading. So, let’s get to it!

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

So, here we go!

CURRENTLY READING:

28114396One of the books which I am currently reading is Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerhill. I have been looking forward to this book for some time, and was very happy to finally be able to sit down and start reading it. I am sad to say, however, that I have been sorely disappointed for the most part while reading this book, and although I have made it halfway, I am not sure if I can finish. It is very rare that I actually cannot bring myself to finish a book, because 1) the shame, 2) I want to know what happens, and 3) the shame.

I’m sad that this book is not what I expected, and I’m very confused by some of the high ratings out there. But to each their own, right? And now, so that I can leave myself enough material to talk about when I actually review this book, here is the Goodreads synopsis for this book:

Seventeen year-old Britta Flannery is at ease only in the woods with her dagger and bow. She spends her days tracking criminals alongside her father, the legendary bounty hunter for the King of Malam—that is, until her father is murdered. Now outcast and alone and having no rights to her father’s land or inheritance, she seeks refuge where she feels most safe: the Ever Woods. When Britta is caught poaching by the royal guard, instead of facing the noose she is offered a deal: her freedom in exchange for her father’s killer.

However, it’s not so simple.

The alleged killer is none other than Cohen McKay, her father’s former apprentice. The only friend she’s ever known. The boy she once loved who broke her heart. She must go on a dangerous quest in a world of warring kingdoms, mad kings, and dark magic to find the real killer. But Britta wields more power than she knows. And soon she will learn what has always made her different will make her a daunting and dangerous force.

518d6bx9felThe other book which I am currently reading is The Undelightened by Bentz Deyo! And while I’m still in the beginning stages of the book, I am eager to find out more about this world, as well as the powers and motives of the characters within it.

I will be posting a review of this book, along with a super awesome giveaway, on January 1st! So keep a look out! P.s. this is the first time I have mentioned this giveaway, and you are therefore the first ones to hear of it! So, props to you for reading this far into my post!

For those of you who want to know more about The Undelightened, here is the synopsis from Goodreads:

Leam Holt’s eighteenth birthday tomorrow caps the most depressing year of his life, marking the anniversary of his failed delightenment—the soul-darkening, magic-bestowing rite of passage that should’ve launched him into the fight between Darkness and Light. Making things worse,Leam’s insufferable brother, Zach, the pride of the family, is set to delighten in a few short hours.

When Gideon, the evil leader of Darkness, arrives to preside over Zach’s ceremony, the course of Leam’s life takes a drastic turn. Rather than fading farther into the background, Leam is ordered to undergo a series of brutal trials. Vast magical power is suddenly within Leam’s grasp if he triumphs, but Leam can’t seem to stay away from a beautiful girl of Light, and his testing is yielding disturbing results.

As Leam begins to uncover secrets on both sides of the war, he realizes the fate of humanity is at stake, and he may have the most to lose in the fight.

RECENTLY FINISHED:

22750291I finished Cauchemar by Alexandra Grigorescu on December 11th…but that’s still recent, right? Oh well. I finished this book, and my overall impression was that I really liked the concept, and some of its contents, but perhaps I was not the greatest fan of the execution. You can read more about my opinion in my review of this book.

For those of you wanting to know a little more about this book, here is the Goodreads synopsis:

Gripping, fast-paced, gorgeously written, and with unforgettable characters, Cauchemar tells the story of 20-year-old Hannah, who finds herself living alone on the edge of a Louisianan swamp after her adopted mother and protector dies. Hannah falls in love with Callum, an easy-going boat captain and part-time musician, but after her mysterious birth mother, outcast as a witch and rumoured to commune with the dead, comes back into Hannah’s life, she must confront what she’s been hiding from — the deadly spirits that haunt the swamp, the dark secrets of her past, and the nascent gift she possesses.

Like the nightmares that plague Hannah, Cauchemar lingers and haunts.

I also recently (well, more recently) finished Tyrants and Traitors by Joshua McHenry Miller! And this book was a pleasant surprise for me. I didn’t really know what to expect going in, and because of some past books which have disappointed me, I have become hesitant and cautious. I really did enjoy this book though, even from the perspective of someone who is not at all religious! Here is my review of this book, if you want to read my detailed thoughts on it. And here is the Goodreads synopsis!

“Find the traitor hiding within Israel,” the seer warns Niklas, “or our nation will be enslaved and your hometown slaughtered.”

So, no pressure.

Niklas, a fifteen-year-old shepherd, spent his whole life dreaming of revolt against the hygiene-adverse Philistines, but when the all-but-impossible mission is thrust upon him, he starts to rethink the whole hero business. What chance does the daring schemer have when lions, the Mad King, and a literal giant stand in his way?

As Niklas races to uncover the hidden traitor, conspiracies and armies converge on the nation—with his hometown directly in the crossfire.

The book I’ll be picking up after I finish with Ever the Hunted and The Undelightened will be Freeks by Amanda Hocking! I have been hearing some good things about this book, and I will also be part of the blog tour for this one! It’ll be my very first blog tour, and I’m very excited. My review and giveaway (that’s right, another giveaway!) post will be going up on January 8th, so keep an eye out for that as well! Those of you who have read to this point are super lucky, because now you’ll be the first to know about both of the giveaways I’ll be hosting in January!

Here’s the Goodreads synopsis for Freeks!

Welcome to Gideon Davorin’s Traveling Sideshow, where necromancy, magical visions, and pyrokinesis are more than just part of the act…

Mara has always longed for a normal life in a normal town where no one has the ability to levitate or predict the future. Instead, she roams from place to place, cleaning the tiger cage while her friends perform supernatural feats every night.

When the struggling sideshow is miraculously offered the money they need if they set up camp in Caudry, Louisiana, Mara meets local-boy Gabe…and a normal life has never been more appealing.

But before long, performers begin disappearing and bodes are found mauled by an invisible beast. Mara realizes that there’s a sinister presence lurking in the town with its sights set on getting rid of the sideshow freeks. In order to unravel the truth before the attacker kills everyone Mara holds dear, she has seven days to take control of a power she didn’t know she was capable of—one that could change her future forever.

Bestselling author Amanda Hocking draws readers inside the dark and mysterious world of Freeks.

  1. I’m so sad to see so many bloggers disappointed with Ever the Hunted! I was super excited for it and was planning on buying it with Christmas money or gift cards, but I don’t think I will now. I think I’ll wait and try to get it from the library so that if I don’t like it, I won’t have wasted my money on it.

  2. So sad to see that Ever the Hunted isn’t living up to expectations. 🙁 Can’t wait to see your thoughts on Freeks, though, since I’ve been seeing some mixed reviews. I wish you luck with Ever! 🙂
