SynopsisShe will become one of the world’s greatest heroes: WONDER WOMAN. But first she is Diana, Princess of the Amazons. And her fight is just beginning. . . .Diana longs to prove herself to her legendary warrior sisters. But when the opportunity finally comes, she throws away her chance at glory and breaks Amazon law—risking exile—to save a mere mortal. Even worse, Alia Keralis is no ordinary girl and with this single brave act, Diana may have doomed the world.

Alia just wanted to escape her overprotective brother with a semester at sea. She doesn’t know she is being hunted. When a bomb detonates aboard her ship, Alia is rescued by a mysterious girl of extraordinary strength and forced to confront a horrible truth: Alia is a Warbringer—a direct descendant of the infamous Helen of Troy, fated to bring about an age of bloodshed and misery.

Together, Diana and Alia will face an army of enemies—mortal and divine—determined to either destroy or possess the Warbringer. If they have any hope of saving both their worlds, they will have to stand side by side against the tide of war.

Where do I even begin? I suppose I’ll start with what I knew before I read the very first page of this book. I knew that Leigh Bardugo is an awesome author, I knew that all of my blogger friends who have read it, have loved it (although I stayed away from their reviews, as I avoid reading others’ reviews before I post my own, so as to avoid having my opinion influenced one way or another), and I knew that I loved the Wonder Woman movie which came out earlier this summer!

Due to the movie release, I already had an idea of what Diana’s home (the island of Themyscira looked like). Despite this, however, Bardugo managed to add to my preconception of the island, with the use of her awesome world building abilities! I feel as if I know the island much better now, and by the end of the book, viewed it as a character all its own. Setting from the real world were also effectively brought to life by Bardugo’s descriptive language, and all locations were a real joy to read about.

The character in Wonder Woman: Warbringer will stay with me for quite some time. They are memorable in the same manner that the characters from Bardugo’s Grisha Trilogy are for me. (I haven’t yet read Six of Crows, but I’m sure that those characters will stay with me afterward, too, once I do read it.) I am not joking. Bardugo has a talent for creating characters who either climb into your heart and decide to stay there for a long time, or those characters who take a big bite out of your heart and never give it back. I’m not sure if my wording really conveys what I am trying to say, but if you have read any of Bardugo’s books, you will probably know what I mean.

Character interaction in this book was also a joy to experience, and the dialogue and banter were especially enjoyable for me! Chemistry between characters was also quite palpable, and definitely left an impression on me that will not fade for quite some time. I need more from this story, and from Diana, Alia, and company, like…yesterday!

I would never say that I’m the biggest fan of superheroes, and I’ve definitely never read any of the old comics. But I do know that I love Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, that I loved the film, and that I absolutely loved Diana and everyone else in this start to the DC Icons book series!

    1. Thanks so much! And I know what you mean, haha. I was going to skip it until I found out that Bardugo was writing it, and that most of my blogger friends were going kookoo over it hahaha

  1. I’m glad you enjoyed Wonder Woman: Warbringer. And you totally need to read Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom soon; the characters absolutely will stick with you because they are wonderful and complex.

    1. Yeeees I keep hearing that from everyone. It’s on my reading list for December, and I might actually host a readalong for it with my blogger friend hehe. I’m super excited!

    1. I read the first few pages or maybe a chapter or 2 last year before I got swamped by ARCs had had to put it down…and I LOVED what I’d seen if Kaz and Inej (spell?) so far!
