Wishlist Wednesdays (#1)

I finally have time for another daily meme!

I’ve been excited to make a Wishlist Wednesday purse since I put my daily meme list together, but I was always busy on those days. I took a sick day today though, haha, and although I worked from home, I have finished for the day and have decided to dedicate some time to my blog (and my lovely readers of course ❤)

Wishlist Wednesday is a book blog hop where we will post about one book per week that has been on our wishlist for some time, or just added (it’s entirely up to you), that we can’t wait to get off the wishlist and onto our wonderful shelves.

Wishlist Wednesday is also hosted by the lovely Pen to Paper, and this was her most recent Wishlist Wednesday post!!

So, the book I will be discussing for this Wishlist Wednesday is……..

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh

A sumptuous and epically told love story inspired by A Thousand and One Nights

Every dawn brings horror to a different family in a land ruled by a killer. Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan, takes a new bride each night only to have her executed at sunrise. So it is a suspicious surprise when sixteen-year-old Shahrzad volunteers to marry Khalid. But she does so with a clever plan to stay alive and exact revenge on the Caliph for the murder of her best friend and countless other girls. Shazi’s wit and will, indeed, get her through to the dawn that no others have seen, but with a catch . . . she’s falling in love with the very boy who killed her dearest friend.

She discovers that the murderous boy-king is not all that he seems and neither are the deaths of so many girls. Shazi is determined to uncover the reason for the murders and to break the cycle once and for all.

I have always been fascinated with tales from “the East,” (I will just name it that for the sake of not having to go into an elaborate explanation regarding what type of stories I mean exactly). While I’m not sure, precisely, where this fascination came from, I have a feeling that it may have something to do with the cartoons that I grew up with in Austria.

Off the top of my head, the ones which I remember enough to actually find online are:

The Arabian Nights: Sinbad’s AdventureArabian Knights

And my ultimate favourite…

Princess Sheherazade !

3760121792327Even just re-watching the intro in German, gets me all happy again! I remember how my sister and I would bounce up and down on the couch, singing along to this intro, filled with excitement.

I don’t exactly remember everything that happened, but I do remember that there were quite a few stories involved—magical, wonderful stories.

Knowing this about me now, it should come as no surprise to you then, that I am extremely excited to read Renée Ahdieh’s The Wrath and the Dawn!

I have tried to cut back on buying books though, and my TBR pile has become PILES. So, I am not sure when I’ll buy and read this book, but I hope it’s soon.

Have you ever watched any of those cartoons as a child? Or anything similar?

And have you read The Wrath and the Dawn? And if so, what’d you think?

  1. TWATD is one of my favorites. The second book came out a month or so ago. You won’t regret reading it. I’ve made all my friends read it and they loved it too!
