Yay it’s time for Top Ten Tuesday again! This week the lovely people ate The Broke and the Bookish are taking a much-needed vacay and they are therefore hosting a Rewind topic for this week! So we get to look back at all of the awesome Top Ten Tuesday prompts they’ve done before, and pick whichever one we choose!

And I’ll just get to it!

Note: These are not listed from most favourite to least favourite, but rather in the order in which I read them.

Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities (1859)

I have been wanting to read this book, and Dickens in general, for some years now. You can guess, therefore, how delighted I was when I saw this book listed on the syllabus of one of the courses I took from January to April of this year. Dickens’ writing is something else, and he awed me with every single page.

Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre (1847)

This book has also been on my reading list for some time, and I’m ashamed that I didn’t get to it until late last year/early this year. I actually read Wide Sargasso Sea some years back, which spoiled some parts of this book for me…but that’s alright. I still enjoyed it thoroughly, and I can’t wait to read it again! Maybe this winter sometime. This book is perfect for reading while wrapped up in a cozy blanket, with a cup of hot tea beside you.

Daphne du Maurier’s Jamaica Inn (1935)

I had to read this book as part of my Teaching Assitant job at university, and I was pleasantly surprised. First off, I was very happy that I had to purchase this version of the book, haha, because I’d been eyeing that cover for some time. And second, I did really enjoy the story as well as the writing! BBC recently aired a TV version of Jamaica Inn, but I’ve only watched part of the first episode. I may finish watching the rest before the summer ends…

Charlotte Brontë’s Vilette (1853)

This Charlotte Brontë book I had not heard of before this year. I’d seen this Penguin Classic clothbound version online late last year, but I didn’t know what this story was about. I really enjoyed reading it, and I found that I liked it all the more after I compiled a presentation about the supernatural aspects of this book’s characters. I had lots of fun with that presentation.

Thomas Harris’ The Silence of the Lambs

This book was just fantastic! Another book which had been in my TBR for some time, and I was able to read it for class! So lucky. Haha. This book pulls you right in. The pace as well as the writing are great, and this book can easily keep you up until morning (because you can’t put it down, and because it can be quite terrifying at times, haha).

Kiersten White’s And I Darken

This book is very special to me. It’s well-written, and although the plot may not be exciting to those who are not too passionate about history…I loved it. And I Darken is a story is based on my country’s best-known historical figure…Vlad the Impaler. Not to mention, Lada (the female version of Vlad), is one of the most badass female characters I’ve ever encountered!

Kirsty McKay’s The Assassin Game

This book was fast-paced, well-written, and I couldn’t put it down! Again, not the most amazing writing (especially when looking back to the books I’ve read which were written in the Victorian Era). But it was definitely fun, and I didn’t guess who the villain was until they were revealed to everyone!

Sarah J. Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses

To those of you who have been following my blog for some months now, this should come as no surprise at all! I am in love with this book, and this series in general! Ugh. I can’t wait to forget enough about this book, so that I can read it again and experience it all over again.

Sarah J. Maas’ A Court of Mist and Fury

Of course, the sequal has to make it on this list too! I really loved this book too. And I was very happy that it was basically twice the size of A Court of Thorns and Roses because it lasted longer that way, haha. I can’t wait for the third book in the series! I’m not sure if I can survive until next May…

J.K. Rowling and CO’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

And the book I read most recently, and one of the most anticipated books of the year! Although I went into reading this script with the expectation that I may not like what I read…I absolutely loved it. Yes, it was not all Rowling, and you can tell, but I was still very happy to re-visit the world of Harry Potter, and the plot was very good also!
